I hate to ask a stupid question, but I've never been good with understanding amp powering, and I just want to make sure I understand what I'm going to be doing with my MB800.

Can someone give me a brief explanation or point me to a link that would explain why it's OK to run a head rated at 800W/4 ohm into a cab that is rated at 700W/4 ohm? I've always thought the speaker wattage handling had to be higher than what the head puts out.

That will be no problem for you! that spec refers to the RMS (root mean squared) of the cab...which, from my experience, is around half of what a cab can actually handle.

My DNA 112N is rated at 450W @ 8 ohms RMS but 900W peak! That means that is can handle 450W @ 8ohms steadily with no problem and 900W is peak power that a cab can handle before any real damage occurs!

This is basically how they explained it in my recording classes in college, but anyone please feel free to make corrections or add more specific info. I have never had any speaker issues using this approach!

Is you go to the qsc website it has an explanation of power. They suggest an amp that is twice the power of the rated cabinets. Also I know that different frequencies require different amounts of power to produce. A 800 watt amp for example will almost never get the full 800 watts delivered continuously not a speaker cabinet.

Power ratings

Rms real watts a speaker can handle
Program watts.... basically double the rms to run speakers most efficiently?
Peak....max power spike a speaker can handle.

I used to run a qsc RMX 2450 bridged at 4ohms into an avatar neo 410 rated at 1000 watts rms......so 2400 watts available power into 1000 watt rated cab. I ran the power amp wide open and worked volume from whatever pre I used with it. I never b

The silver hardware looks killer on black, but gold will take it over the top!:cool:
As for the Red bass...black highlights the black stain grain, but gold looks awesome on red also. Gold for both! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

I'd throw gold on both!

The black looks great as is, but black and gold is classic Spector. The Red needs gold IMO.

I have a brand new set of Gold Schallers I could sell you if you want.
 
You may be able to find a MM114 ( Mighty Mite Haz Copy) if you do some searching.

So there are clones available? How accurate are these clones?

The MM114 aren't being made any more and don't come close to the HAZ (9v US circuit) The TonePump was designed to come close to the HAZ tone... both designed by Spector. You can usually grab a used TonePump for around $50-$60.

I am sticking with what Spector makes.... it works.
