I'd "settle" for any one of the old-school models, but for the price range we're looking at, I'm thinking I should just order one exactly the way I want.... The only problem is, that keeps changing!
I have been gassing for a 5-A quilt top in ultraviolet, but I'm pushing 50, and maybe something a bit more subdued - like the Brooklyn-style - would be more appropriate, especially for my two non-metal projects. I definitely like the walnut models, & the Brooklyn would look at home in any situation. The ultraviolet would look great with my metal band, but I may raise some eyebrows if I brought a purple bass to rehearsals with my church choir or bluegrass band.

Great sound - love that song. Wish they were playing it when I saw them last fall.
Seems like he's playing a newer Euro with a maple top, matte finish and probably a TonePump. Just saying.
And don't forget that huge pedal board in front of him on the floor.
You can color the sound to make it sound the way you want, right? Why not just buy the bass that'll produce that sound by itself, without all those gizmos? Just saying...

Maybe it's just my own sense of "advancement" if you will (not looking forward to my 50th b-day, even though there's no stopping it), but lately the ultraviolet option is feeling a bit frivolous to me, while the walnut just keeps looking better & better.

+ 1 on the DI. I really dig mine- the EQ is voiced really well IMO. The distortion adds some nice grit too.

Wilson and PT are basically at the forefront of modern prog and happen to be my favorite artist of the last 10 years. Well worth checking out.

So this has been bugging me for a little while and while I know there's nothing I can do about it, I want to at least get an idea if this is something that can get worse or not.
I got that blue NS-5XL off the classifieds earlier this year that had been passed around several times over the past year or two, and I noticed when I got it you can see and feel the seam where the lower wing meets the heel of the neck. There's a white line there too. I don't know if this was an overabundance of whatever they used to bond the pieces together or what. It doesn't continue around the back.
The bass has a build date of 4/2008 and I know it was sold to Musician's Friend originally. Also one of the past owners told me he had bought it used from MF which leads me to believe someone returned it to MF at some point.

I have to say if it was like this from the factory, that would surprise me a lot. That would seem to explain why someone might have returned it though. I know if I custom ordered a Spector (especially a US bass) and got it looking like that it would have to go back. I can't imagine Spector would send a "lesser" build out just because it was MF and not an individual.
So my question is, could something have happened to the bass to make that adhesive expand? Maybe it sat in a hot warehouse too long? There's no evidence of a drop.
The bass still sounds and plays great, and seeing as I got it for a good deal with cash/trade, I can live with it. However it wasn't really easy to see in the pics or mentioned by the seller.
Just looking for some feedback to soothe my mind.
that's not the first time I've seen that white stuff on the bond joint of a Spector. I've seen it on a couple of fortes as well.

Steven Wilson is actually a solo act and what you saw was his supporting band when he tours.
He's the founder and lead singer for a British Progressive Rock band called Porcupine Tree.
He's a close personal friend of PJ Rubal's and is an Endorsed Spector Artist.
Ironically when he's in the recording studio he's like Trent Reznor and plays a lot of the instruments himself. But when he's on tour he takes supporting musicians.
And his bassists always play Spectors. Collin Edwin for Porcupine Tree and Neck Beggs for his solo stuff.
Here's a picture I took of Steven and PJ at NAMM this past January. He's a really, really chill guy. Very nice.
