I have no idea. I'll be honest, I'm also a big fan of the old solid black walnut models, but PJ was concerned that the wood was too plain to include it as a full-wing option. It's already used for the back-side of the buckeye burl and spalted maple tops.
You'd have to ask him directly.

I love the photo you used BTW. That's one of those disgusting things you run across... an NS-1 that's been routed for a J and made into a "fake" NS-2.
And the one in this image has been claimed to be #11 for some time.
Forget that I had conversations with both the owner of that establishment (before he passed) and his sales manager... clear conversations stating EXACTLY what they had, and that there is no such serial number as #11 in the NS-2 from Brooklyn. The early NS-2 and the NS-1 models were assigned a serial based on their completion date and the number they were in the batch.
All these guys did was mark the asking price down from $10,000 to $5,000. LOL.
That bass isn't worth $1,000 in the condition it's in. This is a clear case of someone presenting something as something other than what it really is.
And it's sad. That NS-1 in original condition would have been worth so much more. They are very hard to come by.
