Dirt is one of the best rock/metal album of the 90s. I saw them on that tour, think it was in Nov of 1992 at Roseland here in NYC, they were amazing, great sound and very tight performance. Didn't know they were still touring -no one could replace Layne Staley, what a unique voice.
Definitely. I had a trans-red one, just like that, and it was wicked.
Get that truss nut off of there and put a new one on!
Are you sure? I thought I read a few months back that the ReBop 5 was the same length as the 4, just moved the bridge down. Hence the different pickup spacings, too.

The are pretty "in your face". I replaced mine with the Spector 18v and was very happy.
Not to make light of the messed-up **** you had to go through, but that story right there is funny as all hell...
Hehe, glad it made some of you laugh. It was all very funny at the time as well, I had a "reputation" after. Got a couple of funny looks from the staff. There was this one nurse, older lady with a heavy Jamaican accent: "Look at you now, such a nice, polite man but a few days ago? You was a bad, BAD man, hmmmm! Naughty with a capital "M"". And when I got out of bed to walk around the floor I was on, I got a few of those sly "I know you" smiles. Funny AND embarrassing, hehe.
What was NOT funny was not being to play bass for a while until I healed and felt stronger - but when I did, I more than made up for it with marathon sessions, hehe.
I bought the bass from him after their last tour, and have spent some time figuring that out. (He switched from Spector to his Acacia custom and a new Thumb 6 for future stuff sadly)
First off, yes it is a Legend Classic 6 BUT it has had EMG-JX pickups installed with an EMG BQC preamp. As for the tone on the bass itself, the closest I can get is treble up a bit, bass bosted about 1/2 from center, mid selector almost all the way to the low end with about 50% cut.
I believe that the real key to that incredible grindy growly sound is the mixing of his clean bass tone (which as far as I can tell that's what I'm getting with the above settings) mixed with his distortion from his GK setup he was using at the time. He mentioned it was mixed by the same guy who did his stuff on his previous Periphery album before he joined StS.
Even with the couple hundred in electronics upgrade, I'm still amazed that a Legend hold up to my other Spectors, and I'm actually thinking about moving my cherryburst NS2000/5 because I'm playing the Legend Classic 6 instead! A Spector is always a Spector!

I really love my Legend... you are right a spector is a spector!
Great bass just sold one of mine and am keeping my blue one. Love yhe extra bottom end they seem to have. Good counter for my euro. Also have a rebop wiyh a preamp out of a 2000 5. Added some big time modern end to bass made it more warm. Sweet tone and tbey have sustain for days. To me yhe most overlooked spector
Mine was very overbearing, until I modded with an 18V setup and active pickups. It's rather smooth, now.
