Oooh, I love naming things... here are a couple of ideas for that contraption...

The Stroaker (String Soaker, get it?) Or Stroaker Tube

Sugar Cane (string sweetener, get it too abstract?)

String Refresher Pipe? (too obvious?)

How about The Revitapipe

Lazarus Tube or String Lazarus? How about Tone Lazarus?

It is... I have one, too.... which leads me to a question. Is your Micro CL head always sounding overdriven? Can you get clean tones out of it? I was in Sam Ash yesterday to test their floor model versus mine and it seems much cleaner than mine. I'm finding I like the tone on my P Bass, but not so much on the Spectors. I see mixed feedback online as well. I don't know if mine has issues or if this is normal.

It really depends what cab it's paired with (for grit). When it's paired with my Bassic 115 it's dirty from the get go. Paired with my little GK 112 Neo it stays clean. It's very sensitive to the cab. They did design the Micro CL to sound gritty at low volumes....designed to mimic a pushed SVT. It cops that tone very well IMO.

Haha, man those are awesome but I have to admit it's not my idea. I stole the concept years ago from a poster here on TB I believe. Thanks though, I hope this will help those in needs. I was in a very dark "new string zing" place years ago. I have since been liberated.

I think fat240 uses a similar setup.

I keep trying different strings and I keep going back to my trusty DR Hi-Beams. Just can't let go of them.

I like the DR Lo-Riders and this is the first set I have tried, I also like Ernie Ball Cobalts and the Hybrid Slinky string sets.

Does your fretless have a treated/hardened fingerboard?

I purchased the Ebonol (High pressure laminate made from black paper and phenolic resin) fingerboard which is said to resist grooves from roundwound string, I have no grooves but noticed a scratch pattern forming under the A string which I tend to drive hard. I was in the music store test driving a fretless with flats and I liked the sound so I searched the rack for a set to try...

I agree...I mean with the fretless you kind of want that tone the flats provide with all of the sliding and being that it's a new technique for me I still want to bend the strings getting the vibrato. The D'Addario Chromes also have a great tension which brings a cool brightness....and....I think Ice might even like these???? lol

Oh, I just sold the natural Euro to a young guy whos been playing an Ibanez - this will be an ear opener for him. Lucky kid is getting to play and own a Spector at an early age.

Another cool story - Eddie, the guy who bought my NS-4H2 sent me a nice message telling me he played my bass at the halftime show at a NY Jets game - said the bass slayed through the PA at the stadium - could you imagine!!!

From my bassment to NY Jets game. Cool!

Hanser Music Group got back to me on the cost of a truss rod for my ReBop 5DLX. $95USD + Shipping (who knows if there will be duty on top of that). Does that sound right for a truss rod? I remember reading something months ago where the cost of the truss rod was much lower...as well as people having their truss rods swapped out BY Spector for $75 + Shipping both ways.

Any thoughts on this?

I've been using a Tone Hammer 500 for about 6 weeks now to see if I can shake up my tone. See if more of a tube sound sound would suit me.

On Saturday I'll break out the GB Shuttle 9.2 again and see if the TH500 is what I really want. Jason at BSO gave me (and anyone who's a VIP which is all of us if we want) such a good deal that if I decide to go back to the GB I can get just about what I paid for it. If I decide to keep the TH then I'll sell the GB.

Then those funds along with the sale of my NS4CR go towards my UV NS-2 build.

Let us know what you decide and what you think of it!

the TH500 is on my list too, lol as well as the mesa big block 750. OMG BSO has the TH500 for such a great price. I might just have to try that, let me know what you think of the TH500

Is there a supplier in your area? As long as you get the right part it doesn't matter where it is from.
