I wish I had known you were playing Andy, I would’ve come to see you play. I bet your sea foam green NS-2 through that rig sounded massive!View attachment 3200529 Happy First Friday! Kramer era NS2’s #1574 (seafoam green) and #1427 (T-burst) at the Barrington Harvest Festival a few weekends ago.

Thanks Doug! We had probably the best sound man in the area working the gig that day, that always helps too!I wish I had known you were playing Andy, I would’ve come to see you play. I bet your sea foam green NS-2 through that rig sounded massive!

I bought this SSD-era NS-5 from Bass Central. It was sold as a “parts bass” and was priced accordingly. I immediately wondered if it could be repaired. I initially sent it out to Sweetwater as they have a repair shop and previously fixed Dweezil Zappa’s SG that had a similar headstock break. After spending money to have it shipped out them, they determined that it couldn’t be repaired. Well, they said something about adding a splint or brace but it would have run me $800 or so which was not an option for me.
Anyway, at that point, I figured it was a lost cause, but figured I had nothing to lose and posted a thread on the Luthier's Corner forum asking if there was anyone willing to take on the job (with the confidence that they could actually complete the repair). A luthier named Bruce Johnson promptly volunteered to take on this project as a learning opportunity for his intern, Alex. They certainly came through for me and I really appreciate it. In addition to re-attaching the headstock and making it look presentable (which included a lot of work in itself) they also created and slotted a new brass nut, a new control cavity cover, installed hardware, leveled and polished the frets and setup the bass. They even fixed the Spector HSC for me as the compartment became detached during shipping! I highly recommend this shop to anyone who needs their instrument repaired. It did take a bit longer than anticipated, but in the end it was well worth it. Of course, I had never actually played the bass before this week as it was broken when I bought it. It sounds amazing! Really, really nice tone and it looks great.
