I went to the BTBAM show today in Stockholm, Sweden. I ran into bass player extraordinaire and Spector endorser Dan Briggs, less than an hour before the show in the bar. Super nice guy, who took the time to chat with me even though it was a mere 45 minutes before the show. Fantastic show, too! Sound was great and Dan's Spector really brought together the mix, but at the same time clearly audible.

Edit: and let's just say, if I didn't already have enough GAS for his signature bass, I sure have more of it now. :)

I see them last winter in Luxembourg with TESSERACT and PLINI.
It was cool to hear a very good bassist with the Spector Growl thought the PA :bassist:

Well, I decided I liked my first Spector so much, I ordered another one (Spector Euro 5 LX).

It just arrived today! It's the only neck-thru, non-maple boarded bass that I own, but I'm really digging it so far. The bass came set up almost perfectly (had to adjust the tone-pump a little bit) and has an awesome tone to it.

Very happy to be supporting such a killer bass manufacturer!

I really dig their trans black finishes. I'd love to get one, but I have two 5LX basses already.

Ok, so what’s the difference in the finish on a NS-2O from back in the day and one of the newer models with the matte finish? Is the matte finish just an oil/stain of some kind akin to the oil finish of the NS-2O or is it a flat clearcoat of some kind?
The website indicates that the Forte is finished in a matte poly.

Kramer era NS2O basses were an oil and wax finish type more like what you'd see on a natural finish Warwick or something similar. Modern day Forte basses have two distinct finishes, the earliest Forte basses to about mid/late 2015 had a thicker matte poly finish and late 2015 to current production basses are a substantially thinner matte finish. I've got 3 Forte basses and my May 2015 bass has a noticeably thicker finish than my 2017 and 2019 builds.

Just saw Damian Erskine in a show using one of these dual shoulder straps. He helped develop it and uses it on his real heavy 6 string Skjold. (for a bolt neck, that thing is massive)

Looked interesting to me, since the Neck Thru Spectors are pretty weighty too. Thought maybe something to check out. They are pricey, but if it can solve a problem of weight versus playing comfort, why not???

He says he loves it, and does 2 to 2.5 hour shows with a 12 pound plus 6 string on stage.

I’ve already been thinking of using this strap. I have a friend who uses it with his W Streamer bass which actually copies the body shape of Spector NS basses and he told me that apart from weight relief this strap also fixes some neck heavy issues by pulling the upper horn a bit to the right hand side so the bass is in more comfortable playing position! And this is pretty handy cause it makes access to first frets easier especially with 35” scale basses.

I have the non leather one and it's pretty good. It does help with weight, i'm just not sure i like how it feels to me.

If you wear your bass very low, you may need some sort of extender.

The other item, is the loop around the hour may "wear" on your finish eventually. For example, my euro is a matte finish so i could see this area looking more "polished" eventually, but it isn't a concern for me.

Good Luck!

EDIT: I am going to list mine for sale today just as a heads up. Pretty sure it's the Neo, but i'll confirm and add to the FS post when I post it.

couple of ways to mount, either another straplock mount or wrap around strap on the horn

A little back ground, as myth has it in Alaska we have what is called a PFD the state pays everyone a certain ammount from the Oil company taxes, we get a cut off the interest, anyway this year is 1600 per family member, I have 5, so my local guitar shop ordered a Forte 4 to my specs so I finally get to see one in person. It came in today and I get the cash next week, so the question is, if it is everything I hope it should be should I get it or would I be better off looking in to a used NS-2. Let's say for around 3800 dollars what would you do?

This is going to be a silly question as I’m still fairly new to Spector basses but.... Is there any way how to tame the aggressive nature of a Spector Euro 4 bass?

Last night I had it set up with a new set of GHS Roundcore Boomers while noticing my Euro4 was producing a growly yet crunchy register wherever I fret a note. It could honestly be the new strings as the ones before it was also giving off those characteristics I described but less crunchy (dont know exactly what strings were on the bass before when I bought it from the owner). Or the setup my local luthier did which I will be heading back to later today.

While I’m wanting a more warm/smooth tone out of my Euro4 I am damned well sure a Spector can produce just that but, I would like to know some ways on how you guys do it. I did fiddle around the bass and treble knobs having them previously both on at FULL 100% so I am fully aware of where that leads to in tone. Right now my settings for both bass/treble is about 20% Treble. 50% Bass. While on these current settings, I still get that growly register but now with some grunt.

Now for the specs of the Euro4:

PJ EMG active pickups
Korean HAZLab electronics

Vol/Blend/Bass/Treble

Excuse the lame picture angle.

EDIT: And yes I am fully aware of EMG’s and what they do before anyone flames me for it. I own a couple basses with EMG HB’s and X’s and they give me that warm tone no problem.

You could start from lowering the pickups, they are set very close to the strings on your picture, especially the bridge one.

I'm just not sure what you mean by crunchy. I would think that with the bass at 50% and the treble at 20% you should be good as long as your not overloading the front of your amp. Those EQ points is where I like to start the night out on m My NS-2. It's not so hot that I've had to use the attenuator button on my amp but maybe your's is different? Otherwise it just has to be adjustment of the amps tone knobs. Maybe turn the volume down on your bass to about 80% or so.
