Just got the LHZ in this all maple 2002 Euro, completely nails that maple haz tone.

I like that sound, LX tone and the Aggie sound.

I just wish this was a 5, I don't like the wide spacing.

Did you do it solderless, yourself?

So here is my take on changing the OBP-2 in the ICON to the LHZ, which Spector heads know is based after the HAZ preamp.

This is not saying one is better than the other, this is just another option.

As anyone who is familiar with the OBP-2 it's a bright sounding preamp and cranking the highs is not the best option IMHO.

Installing the LHZ did something interesting, there is a "sheen" that is with the OBP-2 (which I find pleasant in the flat setting) was gone BUT what you did get a wider array of highs you could use with that harmonic content that the HAZ is known form but you now able to acquire without having to purchase a USA made Spector.

I personally like bring the LHZ to bass to about 7 O'clock and the highs to about 9 O'clock to even a smidge more.

I went with a push pull volume knob for emergency battery situations only. Since all my other non Icon Spectors will be EMG based.

Stay Groovy and eat the burrio...Life is short.

Congrats on the LHZ, it has a surprising amount of usable range tucked away in it controls. Would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the Aguilar pickups compared to the EMGs if when you've had some time to take stock of things. Lots of good flavors to be had for sure!

Right out the gate the gate the aggies are a noticeably duller when you remove the preamp, so when you add the LHZ you almost have to tweak the highs. That's not a bad thing, but it's thing. Turn that knob to the left like your adding triple sec to your margarita

The Euro NS is completey different ball of surf wax…It's like the preamp was meant for EMGs…Than again it's a neck through and my preferred setting is a straight up flat. That bass is like Daddy Bear, the Icon is like Momma Bear (which is both fine), but a 5 string LX is just right.

I have a TV spot tomorrow and was asked to bring a Jazz ….Its a up tempo moving rock thing in D. I will first plug the maple Euro

For the reach to the first fret to feel the same for both scales , Spector made the bridge route closer to the butt of the body for the 35 scale. Thats been common knowledge for decades.

If you're talking about a 4 string LX, with its original pickups, you'll only need the LHZ. Yes, the EMG pickups are active, as is the preamp, but you can run them all from a single battery, and a Euro LX will have a battery compartment. Unless you get an older one, the EMG pickups will have the quick connect terminals on them, and the whole thing can be wired up without solder (with the EMG pots and jumper wires), though I always still solder to the jack.

But you can also order the jack pre-wired from LHZ. I did that when I LHZ'd my Ethos.

When I had the DGTC put in my Pulse II, my luthier (Brian at Low End) put in a push/pull pot so I can have the preamp tone or just the EMG pickup tone. Pretty neato, but I almost always run the preamp.

Neck cleaning questions:
Dunlop also offers lemon oil which they say is also a great cleaner
Dunlop Fretboard 65 Ultimate Lemon Oil | Musician's Friend

Do you guys think the 2-part kit is better and offers more protection?

The side dot markers on my NS2A are getting a bit tan in color and since they are a small diameter are getting hard to read.
Are they under some sort of clear coat as they don't get cleaner with 409?
Is there a way to get them clean or did the white just age to tan?

FretFX led markers are your Huckleberry!

Typically, Luminlay is installed after the clear coat, although in the factory they might clear over them. If they're getting dull, I'd try some 0000 steel wool, or a synthetic equivalent. Using the equivalent means you don't have to tape off your pickups.

If they're factory installed they're definitely under the finish. Only time they wouldn't be is if they were installed after the fact.
