One thing (of many) that I ind interesting is that for all the symmetry of bodies, horns, etc. the lower strap buttons and far more randomly placed than I would have expected.
Has anyone seen or know anything about this bass by chance? It has a single S on the head stock and no model or serial number anywhere on the neck or in the control pannel. I got it from a friend years back and we belive its a Spector but I cant find a single thing on the web and have never seen another bass of this design...

I'm pretty sure it's not a SPECTOR. There were a couple of guys back in the early 1990's up until a few years ago that would take neck-thru Euro Spectors and cut the wings off then add new wings to change the shape. The most famous is the "Shark Spector" that one of SPECTOR's Artists had done custom from an NS-2A. The final result was a flying V sort of SPECTOR.
This has the wrong headstock logo. The bridge, although close, isn't right. The body, although it could be a modified (de-winged and re-winged) SPECTOR neck thru, just doesn't look familiar.
What does the control cavity look like?
The double j pups are angled toward the treble side . And I don't think it's a neck through , you can see natural wood on the side of the headstock .

That might be a good one to ask Ed Roman about at edromanguitars.com. he loves all the pointy stuff from the 80's. If anyone will know he will. He's got some nice rare stuff but is out of his gourd on price.
That is the same truss rod cover that Tony Anton in Long Island uses. He builds custom and copy basses from scratch... so I hear.
Wait... I got it... I saw that body style and TR cover on a bass in the Luthier's Section on a custom build but that was months ago and I don't remember WHO had the thread.

Yes. And each bass is slightly different weight wise because of the different woods used. The back or lower strap button on my NS-4 is in a slightly different position than my NS-2. Different woods.
