I use the medium nickel SPECTOR Strings on all of my basses except my fretless. I love the SPECTOR Strings. Hex Core, hand-made in the USA. There have been a couple of string manufacturers that have made them for SPECTOR including SIT and Dunlop. The string design is Stuart's and they are made to Stuart's specs. I'm not sure who currently makes them but I know they are made here in the USA and are designed by Stuart to provide the optimum tone for his bass guitars (same thing with the guitar strings).

On my fretless I use Dogal Jaco System: Ultrapiatte Carbon Steel Flats... but to be honest I've never purchased a set of these... I get samples at NAMM every year. These are imported from Italy to one place in NY and are $120/set! Which is sick for strings... but honestly these aren't strings... they're cables from Mt. Olympus that fell to Earth. They are so awesome I can't begin to say.

Good to hear some positive things about the strings, I wonder what makes them different to sound better for his basses?

How long do these babies usually last?

The NS-95 has arrived. Just 2 quick photos.
First impression is very very positive.
I have some family visiting today so I will not be able to go into detail till tonight.

Probably either the windings or the combination of materials used to make them. Stuart played around with several different "formulations" for strings before settling on this string. I like them.

They last a pretty good amount of time. The set on my NS-4 is the original set. I've reconditioned them once in the past year and just recently they're getting to the place where they're starting to loose their punch and sound a little dead.

I soaked them in denatured alcohol for 24 hours about 6 months ago, then strung them back up. So with light/moderate use they've lasted a year.

Do they make a set without the tapered E?
