Why not though? How often do you find yourself cutting bass and treble?
I do quite often :hiding:
Me too. I'll give you a prime example:

When we do Beatles tunes that have that very obvious Hofner tone, I achieve that by rolling the balance almost all (if not all, depending on the room) the way to the bridge pickup and rolling the treble most, if not all the way off and occasionally (again, depending on the room) the bass a little.

It works, but it ain't easy making a very high tech Spector sound like a very low tech Hofner. :smug:

Fair enough. And now for something completely different...

I got the Rebop 5-DLX today. The body has a bit of a nice flame to it, the action is amazing, and it was a stark reminder of how much I absolutely HATE EMG-Hz pickups!!!! God I can't believe how horrible they sound compared to regular EMG's. The preamp doesn't help at all either. It's definitely getting some new electronics ASAP. I might hold off on refinishing it in white since it does have a great looking body though.

My Rebop 5 DLX is the first bass I've had with the EMG-HZ. While I don't hate the tone I have to wonder:
As compared with my NS2CR (PJ EMG's w/ OBP-1).
The Rebop 5 DLX (Soapbar EMG-HZ's w/Tone Pump) is a little thicker and growlier in the bass & low mid, but not as clear in the high end.

How much of this difference would you attribute to the pups vs. the pre-amps?

I had an ESP B-305 with Hz pickups and after switching out the neck pickup to an EMG 40P, it was like I had earplugs in the whole time w/the Hz's, that's how big of a difference it made. Ya know, the whole magical removing of the blanket over the speakers cliche`.

hey guys
quick question. what kind of hardcase (other than the proper spector ones) do you guys use with your spector basses?

trying to track one down that fits well enough without importing a spector one!

cheers

I use a standard square hardcase.. not sure what brand though.

It was the cheapest one my local store had in stock. It works well enough, the bass moves a bit.. but nothing extreme.

I used a G&G vintage case (just the type, not that it was actually vintage) with one of my Spectors and it worked well. I had to put some padding behind the neck to keep the headstock off the bottom. The only problem there is that they are expensive and it would be cheaper for you to buy a Spector hardshell case.

I have for my Euro5 a Warwick hard case,is the molded plastic type and the Warwick logo on top.
It fits really good and is a better case than the Spector one.

I recently bought DGbass70's white NS2A and it came in today making it Spector #3 for me. What a killer of a bass. Very pleased :D

Okay guys, I bought a Rebop 5 DLX recently to test it and still I'm not sure wether or not to give it back..

The sound is the most awesome thing i ever heard, the B string is killer, action is great and the maple top is simply ridiculously awesome.
though, it IS a little neck heavy and I can't stand that... :rollno:

so... keep it or not?
