It depends on what you like.

There are a few of us here who love to play our Spectors through Aguilar stuff (myself included).

Im sure I speak for those who play Aguilar as well when I say that Aguilar lets the tone of the bass shine through with its clarity, allowing all that growl, bite and punch to cut through the mix with the amp's thick and meaty bottom, and all the defintion and top end you could ever need.

To me, Aguilar heads are a perfect match up with Spector. They make any bass sound, full, defined and punchy as heck, so throw in an already punchy sounding bass and you've got a tone that can cut through any mix.

To me, that's what makes my setup stand apart from others. My amp doesnt just amplify my great Spector tone, it gives it that boost to make sure that Im heard through everyone else (and not because Im louder than them).

I dont know how anyone else feels about their matchup, but I think Aguilar and Spector are a match made in heaven.

Been thinking about getting a BQC system put in my Euro 5XL but not sure I'll benefit from it. I usually leave all controls on my other basses flat or just a tad boosted, and I don't tend to blend pickups off center. I would like a single volume control though. The mid controls would be nice but again many times I leave them centered.

So I guess my question is, would having the bass and treble boost completely down on the Tone Pump sound identical to having the controls dead center and flat on a BQC? Just wondering if there's some sort of other "intangible" difference outside of the tone controls.

I just picked up a Rex5. Mines barely has any neck dive. But the tbird design will always have SOME dive but a thicker strap ive found to help.

Curiosity got the best of me so I've wired mine up 18volts.
If it fries, it fries (disregard that puff of smoke and flaming man in the distance......).

So far....nothing, but it's still the first day.
Change in tone is minor, but I've also still got the passive EMG's in this bass.

Feel free to check in from time to time to see if I'm still alive. :D

ALERT!!!: (So no one blows a speaker trying this.)
Holy crap! Found a real big reason not to run the Tone Pump at 18 volts. With the bass in question already plugged in at one end of the cord, I plugged the other end into the amp and got a huge pop and MAJOR speaker excursion. I was so startled I pulled it back out immediately and got the some result as going in.
Confirmed it at a much lower volume setting. It does not happen with any of my other basses (including the 18 volt Spector with OBP-1), nor does it happen with the Tone Pumped Spector when run at 9 volts. Not sure if this would be a problem if I had active EMG's along with the Tone Pump in this bass, but for now......
OUCH! Back to 9 volts on the Tone Pump.

I'm looking at a Legend 5 Classic built in Korea. He's asking $450, barely used and like new cond. Black Cherry W/gold hardware, SSD PUs. Anyone had experience with these to give comments pro/con? Thanks!

They've been on 2 or 3 months now and have shown no sign of lifting, although I have removed the little ones on the sides at the 12th fret that covered the 2 dots. It just looks better without them. Yes, the ones on the 4 string are real. :)

These are the "Silver Pearl" color, but I may change them as they've since come out with a couple of versions that look a lot more authentic to real abalone/M.O.P..

Absolutely. Every gig (and most rehearsals). It's the bass I use when I need extended range either for 5 string songs or chording (I often play in a trio and it comes in real handy under the guitarist in ballads and such tunes like Europa. Especially coupled with the upper octave of my Micro Pog.).

The thing is, unless you're pressing down way too hard, you never really touch them while playing.
They are pretty hardy. I also made sure to clean my fingerboard before installing.
When I took the side one's off, they came up OK without any residue, but it was a little work. The are definately "on there".
