It looks like I'm not going to get the subcontract job finished in time to take advantage of the GC sale to be able to buy the Stingray 5 I was looking at. I noticed that my local GC has a used Spector Euro LX 5 that I can pick up for around $1200. I've heard a ton of good things about Spector. I'm going to go play it today during lunch. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Play it first and then let us know what you think. Everyone is subjected to their own opinions. I could sit here and say they are this and that and sound like this and that, but I think everyone should have an open mind to trying something out. Just know they sound nothing like a Fender. That's all I'll say about that. Good luck and hope you enjoy it.

I had a 6lx exotic (zebra wood body wing tops). It played great and was really well built. It was however very heavy (12 lbs, 6 oz). It also had the tone pump preamp which is a little strange. It has massive amounts of boost in the 2-band eq but almost no cut (+14 db, -3 db). The eq knobs have no mid point indents which I found very strange for making adjustments. The EMG PUs sounded good if you like EMGs. I would have changed the preamp if the weight was more manageable. GC has 45 days to return so you could spend some time with it to decide what you think.

True enough. I've tried to read up on them some. Believe it or not, I've found one bass that I'm VERY comfortable with. It plays well for me. A lot of you will cringe considering the fact that I've been looking at the Fender Elite 5 and the Stingray 5. I played an Ibanez SR505 and it felt "natural". I think it's mostly because of the thin neck. I keep thinking something is wrong with me for liking it. I mean, I've been trying $2k basses, and the $600 bass feels better to me.

I had one and it played great....but tonally I found it very limited, and not necessarily in a bad way. I think with Spector basses you know what you're getting sound wise, and that Spector sound is a very specific one. And there's nothing wrong with that, a lot of people love it. If I were you I'd keep out for the Stingray, or an Ibanez, I played a new Ibanez 5 string and that thing was amazing.
