Spector Fans,

I have been watching many Youtube videos and I can now say I really want a Spector. I would love to own a USA model but I can't justify that kind of scratch while I play in a cover band. So, it looks like it will have to be a Euro model.
Between the models being the humbucker model or the PJ models which would have the most growl? I'm a big fan of growl!
I have been looking at as many sites as possible to read as much info as I can about the different models and I am stuck on which would be the better fit for me.
Euro4LX.......Rebop..... I know I do not want the Coda or Rex Brown models.......

The Doug Wimbish model is pretty sexy in emerald green at Bass Central.
I also like the white and black cherry matte and gloss models of the Euro4LX.

Be careful, I ended up with four Spectors. I have three Korean and one Euro and they're all well made. The Euro has a tone pump pre amp. One thing I like about it is the ability to adjust the output level. I don't like growl, so I turn down the input. The PJ is a nice combo, but I'm partial to that setup. You should get plenty of growl out of any configuration. It would be a good idea to try one first. I may be biased, but IMHO you can't go wrong with a Spector.

Spectors are simply awesome. I've owned 4 as well- all Euros. They are superbly constructed and have a very unique sound. All mine were P/J's as well. The tone pump is a good pre amp, but I wouldn't call it outstanding.

The only real problem with the Euros model is it doesn't maintain very decent resale value. If I were in the market to buy another, I'd absolutely look for a good used one. Also, they don't necessarily come with a hard shell case, and the Spector cases are pretty expensive. A used one witha case- that's the ticket.

I've played the hum bucking models, but I prefer the P/J version. It has more of the Spector growl IMO.

Well I've got a Spector ns-94 that I'm about to sell soon. It's at least 90% Euro sound and very comfortable to play. Not only that, you can find these really cheap. Here's a sound clip so you can hear how good it actually sounds.

Agree - P/J will get you the most of the growl you're looking for. That said I was always able to get a plenty of it on the TW-equipped basses as well as my DC-equipped Webster. It's just a different flavor of growl.

Gasman is spot on about the resale value. The prices I've seen Euro neck-thrus go for are criminal IMO. These basses are easily 75-80% of what the US models are. They are handcrafted and built like a rock. Unless you're having one built to an exact spec, I would definitely buy used. That way you'll lose less when you eventually sell it to finance a US build. :)

But seriously, the Euros are awesome. If all I ever had was Euros from here on out I'd be more than happy with them. Extremely versatile and better than any US-built bass in the same price range IMO.
