I’m about to make a purchase and am standing at a fork in the road between these two basses right now. I used to own a Rebop 5 and deeply regret selling it, I’d like to rejoin the Spector-havers once again. I’m considering the dimension 5 in blue/black vs the euro 5 lt in violet. I have heard significantly more (and higher quality) sound clips of folks playing the dimension 5 than the euro, there’s weirdly few quality videos of euro 5 lts floating about on YouTube.
I’m basically strongly leaning toward the dimension at this point because of its sound versatility, not-noisy pickups and beautiful finish (more attractive to my eye than the violet on the euro). I’ve heard ever since the pickup issue was solved from the first gen that they are spectacular instruments worthy of the Spector name/sound, and many folks claim they’re among the best basses they’ve played.
The only issue with this is that I’m eating the cost of a new model at like $2200.
On the other hand, there is a mint euro 5 lt going for roughly $2500 brand new. I’ve similarly heard people rave about the quality, tone, build, etc of these basses and how they’re absolute monsters. I am not in love with the violet finish (though I still like it, just don’t love it), but am into the gold/brass hardware, the black neck/headstock, the ebony board, and the safety offered by the traditional frets.
I’ve heard people complain and say the dimension’s pickups are too tame and don’t really sound like other spectors, they sound more generic, don’t growl as well, etc. I’ve also heard people say the lt is untamable and cannot be used in some contexts because it’s naturally too aggressive. I’m ultimately hoping to use this Spector to gig around and play varying amounts of metal/punk/grunge and funk/jazz, I’m wondering which would sit nicely in all of those contexts. I’ve heard some people say the extra scale length on the dimension makes it thunderous and extremely resonant, which is something I’m very excited to hear.
I’m sure this type of post is played out, but would anyone like to give opinions or share stories about either/both? I am left handed if that helps and neither of these guitars are present in my local guitar center/sam ash. I have heard some people say that the dimension is not even in the same league as the LT (I can believe it due to the stock price diff, $3500 vs $2200) but the dimension is calling me.
Should I just shut up and get the euro? I’m leaning HARD dimension at this point, but if it’s a stupid move in the face of an incredible deal, I’d be willing to change my mind and spend the extra $300. If I had to follow my gut I’d grab the dimension, but they’re so close in price and the euro lt’s rep speaks for itself.
