Spector pickups/electronics

I've seen a couple of comments from players who weren't that impressed with the pickups/electronics that come on current Spector Legend Classics (EMG SSD's with Tone Pump Jr.).

My question is: how do they compare with the bits that came on my Kramer era (mid-80's) NS-2A? (EMG Select, active, P & J style). I've had this bass a long time, and although I've certainly played nicer sounding instruments, it's been just fine and always has been up to the task.

I ask cause I'm considering a 5-string Legend Classic.

I have two Spectors... both with EMG-HZ passives (ReBop 5'er TonePump pre-amp upgraded from 9V to 18V recently).

The 4-string Legend NT (if you can believe that!) doesn't have the best tone so I contribute the better sound from the Euro to the TonePump. Spector playability is always great though.

I don't know if you can compare the passives that will come with your Legend 5 with the actives on your NS. Some don't like the TonePump circuitry -- I happen to like it, the new tone on my 18V supply pre has been described as "mean". One thing is for sure, you can always tell a Spector sound.

more towards deep lows and mids
depending on what your playing out of
the treble can be lost due to its tinniness

it sounds fine at home
but when I play at church I hear the treble side get lost in the mix
this may be due to the fact that our in ear monitor system is currently down and I have to rely on floor monitors

Absolutely. I play out of a Fender Vintage 4 X 10 combo at church which may contribute to the treble loss.... which doesn't make much sense... the old amp can't handle the low B too well (esp with the 18V pre) . Knobs are kind of screwy to get used to...

=) I'm using an 98' Spector NS-4CR with EMG active P/J, the thing's a growling beast. I however don't quite hear that from the new spectors, specifically the Legend.
