Spector Sound

I personally own a euro5 LX and I would describe the sound as being mellower than a crfm series. The alder tones down the maple and results in some thick low range tones. Having said that, dont think for a second that the LX cant get down and dirty. I play mine through an SVT IV and it can rock when called to duty. Not to mention that the playability is awesome. Get either one and you'll love it. But the LX is a beast thats a bit more tame. :smug:

Is there a huge tonal difference between the Euro and Euro LX? I snagged a Euro 5 from Bass Central last May and after swapping out the stock electronics (added an EMG BQC pre-amp and a 40CS in the bridge position), the highs are mellower without that ice-pick quality. I was thinking about getting a Euro LX 4-string. Does the P/J pup config change the sound significantly from what you'd hear coming from two buckers? EMGs tend to all have that "EMG sound" to my ears.

I'm also looking to get a little more burp and growl out of my Spector. Any ideas?

The Euro4LX (P/J config) EMG's have a clear hi-fi tone, but if you dig in harder there's definitely an edge in the tone. You might need to swap out the preamp if you're looking for more of a traditional "burp/mid-growl", though. It really records well in a band mix and can cut through when you want to (imo):
