Spectracomp or SD Studio

My opinion is that you can get the Spectracomp for less than $75, while the SD Studio goes for around $160 :)

As for their quality, I've never tried the SD but I'm very much enjoying my (inexpensive) Spectracomp.

I'd get the SD because I'd like to have 4 knobs to tweak rather than having to use the phone or plug the pedal into a computer just to change something.

The toneprints are fun, but it can be annoying to change presets when playing with other people.

Yup....I have an iPhone and I've tried a bunch of toneprints.....currently settled on the Smooth N Funky one.
I also have their chorus and delay pedals as well using various toneprints as well...most of my pedal board is TC Electronic gear ;)

The app only lets you load TC presets. You can't edit these, but there's enough variety so you should be able to find one you like.

You can load the pedal with your own toneprint, but you need to use the editor in your computer. It has like 30+ different parameters.

Haven't tried the SpectraComp but I really dig my SD Studio Bass comp.

Takes up a little more space on the 'board but offers lots of control once one figures out the knobs. It allows a wet/dry mix which I like -- I'm sure the TC one can do that too, though I prefer analog.

had the SD for a while and liked it very much ... sadly , i really started to get it dialed in right after i sold it .. ! it really is a great bang for the buck .. !

the blend and the filter switch really make it quite useful .. !! well liked at Omnivlab (?) reviews

fyi ... i moved up the food chain a bit to the DG SuperSym ... it has a tubey kinda sound , where the SD really did sound like a studio piece ... clean .. !

i think there's a couple used SD pedals in the Classifieds ..

I put my brand new Spectracomp in storage after three weeks... Does come with some pretty good TonePrints (I quite like 9901 Funk). The editor is too overwhelming IMO, TC should provide some editable (is that a word?) TonePrints to mess around with, showing us how it's done. Found a really good deal on a Keeley Compressor Pro @andertons.co.uk and bought that. Thinking of selling my EBS Multicomp and the Spectracomp...
