I went to see this today while mycarwasbeing worked on. It was...... OK.. It was a Bond flick so there was lots of Bond stuff going on... but there were some parts that made me go .. really and there were also lot of very predictable parts... some that I saw coming from quite a ways off....

I enjoyed Skyfall, even though you could drive a semi through its plot holes. Casino is one of the best Bond movies ever. It will always be hard to match it.

Yeah Skyfall was not terrible, but it was so dark and the plot seemed entirely geared toward the demise of a certain character (nameless here to avoid spoilers). They could have subtitled it The Death Of (X). Big changing-of-the-guard subplots, a mentally and physically banged-up hero, and lots of general distraction from the things I enjoy more in a Bond move.

Interestingly, like you, a lot of audiences and critics liked Skyfall a lot more than me. Maybe I'll watch it again soon.

The thing about Skyfall is that it was way better than Quantum of Solace, and I think that's part of the reason why so many, including myself, enjoyed it so much when it was released. It has it's issues, but generally speaking I think it's a fantastic entry. However, I will say that repeated viewings of Quantum of Solace has warmed me up to the movie a bit more. It's not horrible, just not as good as the rest.

Good point.

On a relative scale, and with the firm understanding that critical rating has nothing to do with personal enjoyment, consider the following Rotten Tomatoes ratings (critics/audience):

Casino Royale - 95%/89% approval
Quantum - 65%/58% approval
Skyfall - 93%/86% approval
Spectre - 63%/68% approval

Although that seems a bit generous for Skyfall to me, it does not bode well for Spectre. Again, I'll watch it anyway because I am a fan of the franchise.

Wow, that's pretty bad for Spectre. I was hoping it would be roughly as good as Skyfall.

I'm looking forward to seeing it, plot holes and all. It's a Bond flick. He's cool, wears tailored clothing, drives cool cars, sleeps with beautiful women, and dispatches the bad guys. If it has those elements, I'll be ok with it. It can't be as bad as Never Say Never Again, can it? Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond.

Agreed on all counts, except I can think of a couple Roger Moore entries that make Never Say Never Again look pretty good.

Craig edges out Connery for me, but that could be because this is the modern era of better stunts and FX, more acceptance for violence, and the most physical Bond ever.

I thought Skyfall went rapidly downhill when bond took M off to the Scottish castle......just got so so silly after that

So i hope Spectre is written better

casino royale started more like Bourne....The new style Bond......But ......

It's funny you know i too watch Bond films purely for entertainment, but recently i have been re watching the daniel Craig Bond films as i will be watching Spectre within the next week or so.

And after re-watching them all i thoroughly enjoyed Quantum of Solace. When i watched that film at the cinema i was mildly entertained but re-watching it i think it is right up there with Casino Royale. I also enjoyed Skyfall again the 2nd time round. So im thinking Spectre will be more of the same.

I feel like this is a common thing with movies today, as they spend huge amounts of money telling everyone how good it will be and so everyone has these super high expectations and even though its a great film it wasn't magically next level like we were told to expect. In fact my most enjoyable cinema experiances have been the ones where i knew nothing about the film i was walking in to.
