Received my Vintage Burgundy Subtle 60's light relic tonight. Looks very similar to the white Jazz above. Beautiful dark and smooth. Now I just need to buy a body to put it on.

It has to be said... The 1966 Jazz Bass IMHO is the nicest looking Jazz bass. Would love either this Olympic White, or Macca's Sunburst with tortie, in lefty, of course.

Yes, dot & bound for the 1st 6 months and block & bound from July on. The CBS transition period. A few late 65's had pops installed as CBS was already in the works by then. I also have seen an early '66 burgundy mist w/matching hs face... off-the-charts!

Thought I hated the LPB refin on my 1965 Precision. But when I got a second-hand Spitfire off the classifieds, I realized that it was the crap mint green guard that I'd been hating. Flat-out love how this thing looks.

My Spitfire guard came in yesterday. Here it is on an '83 Squier SQ Precision. Seems like a lot to spend putting it on a bass like this, but the old MIJ Squiers were remarkably good basses. The guard really does make the 3 tone burst pop too!

I have the original bass in this thread in the classifieds FYI. With or without the Spitfire. I would love to keep the Spitfire, but it just seems to be a perfect match for the bass!

I now have a 62 RI J Oly white for my Jazz spitfire.. Not the best pic, as I just put it all together and then took the pic. String spacing has been adjusted . Now I need a relic thumbrest, an aged control plate (thinking of going VVT anyway) and a little more yellowing of the Oly White. I bet a couple hours in the hot Arkansas sun would take care of that easily.
Roadworn bridge is installed.

Looks great! How did you get one with the 60's authentic thin black layer? From what I know it wasn't available. Was it recently made?

Cool, I saw on his FB page that he's been working on it for a while and got figured it out recently, but had only made a few Jag guards, so that's cool he's making Jazz one's now (I'm sure Ps will follow)!

Most, yes, but not all. This guy's work looks legit.

Though I have yet to see any in person, in the photos they look authentic to me. For example I see no meaningful difference in the pattern structure and color range, between his work and my 1969 Precision Bass pickguard.

A 60's vintage tort pg sells for as much as $500. The very least I've seen one sell for is $200. Every single current mass produced tort pg on the market regardless of brand or price is a photo (dot pattern) of stylized tort. (twice removed from real tort) Some look better than others, some cost more than others - but they are all texture with no depth and nothing like 60's (Fender) tort. Mark is an individual selling quality hand made tort pg's, each one unique with depth and richness of colour and frankly has a right to price them accordingly. If you want one, it's up to you to decide if the cost is justified, as with any purchase of any product.

JIO, do you know if Fender Custom Shop's tort pickguards are dot patterns, too? I think that they do have depth, but I may well be wrong.

I would love to order a New, Vintage Burgundy, Speckled '60s one for my NOS CS '64 Jazz, but unfortunately the total cost including shipping (I live in Greece) is prohibited at the moment.
