Thanks! Yep, that's the VB, no relic version. The dot&bound neck was made for me by Dan Ransom/SF and finished by Pat Wilkins. The body is a Fender MIM 60's vintage w/Fender Super 55 split-coil J's, Santellan Sounds Elek-Trix passive harness and LaBella flats.

This Ray looks great with that tort! I'd love one of these for my stingray to break up the black/black pg/maple fretboard monotony, but again I'd have a better chance convicting the misses that I need a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones for practicing before I could convince her that I need a 160 dollar pickguard!I'm quite the fan myself.....

Nice basses augmented by all parts!
How did you get the paddles? Those look like they could pop into any 70s spec'ed tuner plate. Might even work in my Wilkinsons.Converted 70's RI tuners, similar to what Madison sells.
Is there any place out there where you can get these tuner posts from? Sorry for the drift, but I always loved paddle tuners.

Like I said - Madisons Music on eBay. They do a distress version so I would imagine if you contact them they will make you a 'non-disressed' version.
I bought mine years ago from a guy on eBay who sold converted pops. I'd send him the set of Getty Lee tuners and he'd file & polish them - super quality. I bought two sets, essentially for what MM charges. I haven't seen their pops up close, but I'd buy a set from them if I needed one.
I'm in Canada so when you convert that $160 to CAD.... well just nevermind.... For those that don't get the expense, possibly be glad that Spitfire tort isn't the only tort that fills that tort void.... But for some of us that probably have some sort of disorder where the only thing that truly makes us happy is that vintage cloud like puffs of red and yellows, Spitfire tort is the only game in town... Chandler was too brown, WD had the horrible printed stuff and some that was closer than anything else but not quite there... Pickguardian was the same... Then my search landed me on the offset guitars forum where this Spitfire guy had make something like two pickguards and they were what I was looking for but it wasn't like he was a commercial entity, he was a guy experimenting in his garage or something... but then he mastered it and started selling it! So that's why I spent $160 on a stingray pickguard.... It was something totally unattainable that suddenly became obtainable.... For $160 bucks...

No question. Obtaining unobtainium usually takes some serious coin.
I have no idea the cost and time to get set up doing something like this, but I think his price point seems fair for what you get. Look on eBay...there are two new 63 RI Fender tort's listed for $87! Look at those, then look at the white Bluesman above. No comparison.
That right there is an absolute thing of beauty! LOVE the bound/dot fretboard.
Regarding the Spitfire guards and pricing... the way I see it is if you are willing to shell out $500 for a fancy top on a boutique bass because you like/want that look, I see no issue with spending $160 on a vintage correct pickguard. Mark does outstanding work and I haven't seen anything that comes close to the depth and 3D quality he gets. I actually just ordered one for my MIA Standard Precision.
It has to be said... The 1966 Jazz Bass IMHO is the nicest looking Jazz bass. Would love either this Olympic White, or Macca's Sunburst with tortie, in lefty, of course.Thanks!
