Hello everyone! I'm new here. I just picked up bass again and I purchased a new Squire Classic Vibes 60's Mustang Bass & Fender Rumble 40.
I was hearing noise coming out of the amp as if the pickups were picking up signals. The noise would change as I moved the bass in different positions. So, I took my gear to the guitar back to the store and played my bass through my amp and it was near silent. No noise.
So, with the help of YouTube, I conducted a test (see attached photos) and placed a large piece of aluminum foil over the pickguard and made holes for the pickups and I grounded it to the control plate and nearly all the noise went away.
So, I went ahead and shielded using copper tape and grounded it to the control plate with very good results and the noise is a lot more tolerable.
So my newbie question to anyone or any bass player out there with single coil pickups is, is this within tolerance to hear just a slight amount of noise coming from the pickups out of the amp? The noise goes away completely when I turn the guitar volume down. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on my first bass I like the look and feel of it so far. So should I keep it and just enjoy it for what it is or send it back and try to get something with noise-canceling pickups?
Thanks in advance to the community.
