So, I split the nail on my right index finger by using it like a pick... Is there something I can coat it with to keep it from splitting more until it grows out? Med grade superglue? Epoxy? Gorilla Glue #4? Bondo? TIA!
I don't know what the solution is, but I'm pretty sure about the cause: Stop using your fingernail as if it were a pick. If you want to get a pick sound, use a pick!
Superglue. Could also put some pingpong ball on there to keep it good. Gaffa tape works too in a pinch. Get some horse hoof cream too, it'll strengthen the nail. Buy some picks.
Superglue is good for a fast fix, but clear nail enamel removed and reapplied every four to six days till the break grows outis what you'll be looking at.
My thumbnail does this about twice a year. I use superglue and some fibreglass fibers across the crack (perpendicular). I leave it on until the crack grows out, filing it down every two days while waiting.
What about just clipping down a fake nail and gluing it on there? I also like the ping pong ball idea. I knew a guy who made his own long fingernails out of them for fingerpicking on guitar.
That happens to me occasionally, usually in the winter time. Try to keep your nails hydrated. Some folks put lotion or oil on their nails at night, and then wear gloves.
Not yet! Trying to head off the "it hurts" stage... Thanks for all the suggestions. I have a box full of picks. Finger has better tone... Tone is in the fingers!
Yes, tone is in the fingers...not fingernails I would stop picking with fingernail and use a pick or pluck with fingers. Hope it heals and gets better soon.
