splitting frets!

I agree, i thinks it is NOT fret wear, my bass is over 20 years old and I'm an aggressive player (think Steve Harris) and i have some gouging but NOTHING like that. Just take it back to the store and ask them about, i know there was a problem with fret wire on a Jazz 24 bass that a fellow TBer owned and after 2 new necks, they found the fret wire was far below specs, it was pretty soft. Hope every thing goes well.
 
Look at the marks left in the fretboard and tell me he doesn't have a death grip on the neck when he plays. I have basses I've owned for YEARS that don't have a mark in the wood. Rarely changed strings (stainless especially), nickel frets and a heavy hand will destroy frets.
