Splurge on cab or amp?

Any decent head will get you home. A good cab makes a huge difference.

A lousy cab sounds lousy with any head, especially if you are pushing it. It's hard to sound bad with a great cab.

The greatest cabinets in the world can stink with the wrong amp, and in my experience, the better the cab, the better the amp should be that's driving it, as you're gonna hear ALL of it.

You need really, really good carrots or none of the rest of it matters.

You need carrots so good that the Emperor will walk into the courtyard, munching a carrot, listening to your bass-lines, and be completely oblivious to the fact he has no clothes on.

I good cab doesn't cost a lot of money, but it makes all the difference when it comes to sonic tonality. Make sure it is quality made from void free spruce and that it is sized appropriately for the drivers you choose to put in it, then spend the money on a 300 watt all tube Ampeg SVT ll non-pro or 50th anniversary, Fender 300T, or Verellen meatsmoke head (and a roadie!).
