Hello All,
I just noticed that DPA has changed the design of the 4099 series mics. From reading the copy, as of May this year the cable now detaches from the end of the goose kneck making it possible to obtain different lengths and two different thicknesses. I had heard from sound technicians that the 4099's were only lasting about a year with constant use/abuse on the road. The cable was apparently the weakest link. You can also get an "optional gooseneck extension that apparently doubles it's length making it twice as long as the original. So for any of you planning to get a DPA 4099B these are things to consider. I'll probably be putting mine in up for sale after I check into the price of the newer ones. I love the mic.

No price change on the new ones; they streamlined in the changes with a new name "D-Vote" (kind of an odd name, actually) and other than the capability for the new accessories (gooseneck extension, cable) the specs and design are identical to the previous mic.

Any word if it is possible to retrofit the originals?

Nathan,
If I read the new literature on the DPA 4099D-Vote correctly they are not backwards compatible. Now, whether or not DPA can modify or retrofit the original's with the new gooseneck adaptor and detachable cord, isn't known. I just sent them a email, so when I know something, I'll post it to this thread. My guess is that they cannot, but then what do I know.

Ric
