With a good setup and some upgraded parts and affinity can be an excellent bass. My main #1 bass is an affinity p. I have a couple of warmoth builds, a fender mim p, an american jazz deluxe j, a squier CV, and various other parts builds, but I always find myself reaching for the affinity p first. It plays well, and sounds awesome.

Everyone I personally know that owns/owned one of these basses had nothing good to say about them. Tuning & intonation issues, pots going bad, poor hardware, knobs falling off, poor shielding, etc. Not to mention most of us think they sound like crap.

If it were me, I would save for something of better quality in both constrution and sound.

I'm looking to get the same bass now for the same reasons. I want to pull one apart, do a refin and electronics swap, and give it a good setup. You can make just about anything play and sound good with the right mods and a setup.

I but a squier starter pack with a jazz bass.It was a good deal.I needed a practice amp so the purchase was 2 fold. I went to one of my local music stores for it. Fender had a 10% off promo. It originally was $279.99 plus tax. With the discount I got the package out the door for $272 and change. The kit came with a tuner, headphones, strap and instuctional dvd which I gave to my stepson who is thinking about playing bass.I told him he could have my OLP to check out and if he is really into it,I'll buy him one of these combo's. I'm very happy with it even the pups sound better than I expected. The only thing I'm changing out is the pickguard,I found a nice white pearloid, looks good with the blue.
