Squier Bronco Mods....another thread

I’ve seen numerous threads on this, but if I’m posting in the wrong place please move to right category. I picked up a used black bronco in good shape(with a huge bow in the neck) I took it home, cleaned it up, new strings and neck is at straight as an arrow with low fast action, sounds and plays good....but now I’m thinking about future upgrades...starting with regular sized tuners(drilling holes..blah blah) and a good pickup that would be a drop and go replacement, seems too much like a guitar pickup but works...suggestions or other mod projects? Drop pictures, let me know thanks! :)
looking forward to some pics! good luck with your mods!

The top one is an earlier version. Since that picture was taken I substituted the pickup with the one I bought from Amazon. The bridge is a 4 saddle Musicmaster bridge I bought online and modified to be top loading. The bottom one is another experiment using a neck and bridge from and Ibanez Mikro. I modded the Bronco pickguard to fit the Mustang control plate. I recently swapped the neck, pickup, and bridge with a Squier Jaguar SS neck, another Amazon pickup and another Musicmaster 4 saddle bridge.

All those mods and you'll still be stuck with that lousy Bronco neck.
Wha-wha-what?!?
The Bronco neck is one of the most comfortable necks that I have ever played.
This.

I've got a Badtz Maru (Hello Kitty) Bronco, and the neck feels perfect in my hand. I find it very easy and comfortable to play on. For me, it's a Mary Poppins neck: practically perfect in every way.

Cudos to the OP for modifying a Bronco to his own tastes.

Bronco's are really fun to upgrade. The cost can easily get away from you though. I originally bought the black one on the right for my wife to use and replaced the neck with the Squier Jag SS neck and, keep costs down, the pickup is a GFS Lil Killer HB Rail pickup. Slapped on some new short scale Chromes I had lying around and my wife loved it. It was her first bass and we still have it.

I like the bass so much, I bought another used Bronco project that someone already modified for a jazz pickup and '62 RI jazz control plate. So, it has a Carvin Stacked HB jazz pickup and an MM Style Bridge to have the option to intonate each string individually. But, if you look at the current setup, I might as well have the original bridge. I really like the Squier Jag SS neck so bolted it on the body. Strung it with SS rounds and love it.

I like these pickups on my Bronco: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Much better than stock.

Another vote for these. they're inexpensive, drop right in, and if you get the height set just right, they sound great - to my ears.

I've had mine for 4 years, bought it used, but I've had no issues with the neck at all. It's a tiny hair chunky for my taste, but not crippling. Never needs adjusting. Only problem I had was the cheap tuners. One snapped right below the key. When I replaced it, a tiny piece chipped off. Looked like veneer the way it came off.

Those look great! I LITERALLY actually had the same thought today of using a Jaguar SS neck myself since the headstock is black and would match the body, I searched around on fleabay and amazon and wasn’t able to source a neck though :(

I'm leaning towards getting one very soon and heard the stock PU has it's own positive thing going on but clearly the tendency is to upgrade, and results have generally been excellent. I'm far from opposed to modding but how would you say the stocker is lacking? is the low end weak?
The stock single coil picks up lots of environmental noise, which I can't abide. This is where the humbucker comes in. And I'll allow that guitar and bass pickups are essentially the same, but I don't find the stock pickup to sound "bassy". The mismatched pole piece spacing causes odd note reproduction, meaning I can't get consistent results when using a pick vs fingers.
If none of that matters to you, the stock pickup will do. But for $20, why not upgrade?

thoughts on this Pup?
And again thanks folks for all of the input, we all love our basses and the TB forum :) anyone else have bronco pictures to add to the thread ???
