Squier bronco question?

Hi everybody I am currently considering a new project involving a squier bronco.
what I want is one with a natural finish preferably alder. So I wanted to see if anyone here knew what kind of wood the broncos where made out of before I buy one and sand the finish off. Also if any of you knew where I could buy a reasonably priced alder body from.
Any help is much appreciated .

I sanded the finish off of only part of my Bronco to create an arm forearm contour. The color coat came off relatively easily but the thick undercoat of polyironthane was a bear to remove.

The mystery wood underneath wasn't anything to write home about, certainly not alder. I put some 3# orange schellac on it and it's ok.

Hey Samantha, how's the bass build coming?

Broncos typically have basswood bodies. They are solid, but have little grain or figuring. Not really enough to write home about.

A warning about them, I have seen and repaired two recently that have had the nut factory-installed on the wrong side of the nut line, ie, too close to the body. This has obviously affected intonation considerably, but not as much as one might guess. They were both a pain to repair and not really worth it for someone to pay to have to do - I'm not going to fix another one if it crosses my bench...

It has several mods, the pickguard was cut for the Mustang RI control plate, EMG SA pickup, Mustang RI neck, Musicmaster bridge, extended strap button.

You better figure that a solid color finish is required. The wood under there is highly unlikely to be attractive in any natural finish.
