Squier deluxe 5 string jazz bass. Thoughts?

Just picked this up as part of a trade. I know the vintage modified ones play really nice. This neck is weirding me out a bit. LOL. Anybody have one? What do you like or dislike? Thanks

I have one:

I love the ebonol board. The neck is a wider than my other fivers, because the strings are spaced wider. It's not my favorite J, but it gets the job done. I like that it has 60s pickup spacing.

It's a good deal, but I have others I like more.

The discontinued white model was my first fiver. I love the ebonol board, but the super-flat fretboard radius did not agree with my fretting hand. You think that could be the issue you're having or maybe the 2" nut width?

Well I've been playing it for about an hour straight now. It's definitely the widest 5 string I've ever had. The board is nice. It has a really nice tone. Definitely fun to play, don't know if it's a keeper yet. That neck width would definitely take some getting used to. Did they make this in a 4 string with this neck? That would probably be amazing!!!

I owned one of them when I was playing 5 for a bunch of years. It became my number 1 gigging bass - and I owned at least 3 other 5 strings that cost more than 6 times as much. That bass is a monster. Killer tone, I loved the string spacing. Only thing I hated was the Squier logo :).... I know it was wrong, but I blacked it out with a Sharpie. As soon as I did people started complimenting the tone and asking what kind of bass it was :).

Oh yeah... mine weighed about 40 lbs, too. I wasn't too crazy about that, either.

I miss that bass.

They sure did. Here's one I harvested for my first-ever parts bass.

In fact, it was that very neck that helped me zero-in on my personal preference for curvier fretboards.

Glad you dig it! Is the 4 stringer wider at the nut than a standard Jazz?

Nope, it's the usual 1.5" nut width.

I'm glad I found this thread. Here's the deal: I have one, and I hate it. It weighs too much, and I no longer have a need for a 5 string. My problem is, it came with a broken battery box, and nobody I've talked to has any idea what to replace it with. Suggestions? Other than that, it's in good shape and should fetch a decent resale price.
