Squier Eva Gardner P Bass - The Dissappearance

I've been looking to buy one of these basses. I should have bought one when they were current but I waited too long and they got discontinued. I can't find one used for the life of me. Reverb...nada. EBay...zilch. I guess they didn't sell many of them. Either that or the people that bought them are hanging on to them. I love the black/tort combo with the Jazz neck.

Probably a little of both. The hanging on part definitely also applies to the Squier Matt Freeman Precision, the Claasic Vibe Precision (particularly the sonic blue version) and the James Johnston Jazz Bass. Very rare on the used market, at least here in Germany. These basses and probably also the Eva Gardner were just too well made and priced.

I think it was a case of underestimating how decent these basses are. There were a fair number of negative comments about them, if I recall, but mostly to do with the ship decal and the Jazz neck dimensions (from folks who prefer a P-bass neck width)

Had one. Had 5 different CV 60’s P basses including the Eva Gardner.

They were all great and well worth the money. I just moved on from Pbasses as my musical focus switched to needing Super Jazz basses.

My suggestion, look everyday and night online at Music Go Round, Reverb, and GC used . I found everyone of mine except for 2 that I got here in classified section.

Be patient and one will turn up.

Good advice. I'm still kicking myself for not buying one new. They were very well priced. You're right, though. One will come along eventually.

Theres one in Rochester NY for $300 (USD, obviously) on FB MP. it's been there a while there a while there might be wiggle room. IDK if CITES prevents rosewood entering Canada though... (if so, I'm sure that's why they're so hard to find.)

But I'm with you, I love a plain precision with a J neck. No J bridge pickup, not active. They're hard to find in general! Unless you specifically want that decal, I would just build a parts bass.

Thanks for the tip-off! I didn't realize CITES extended to used instruments. As for the ship decal, I can take it or leave it. It doesn't bother me.

You can always buy a Japanese Midnight P bass.
One of the Fenders I'd buy if I wanted a P bass.

I was interested in those when they came out. It's the "Duck Dunn" configuration, P with J neck. Such a common mod to do but for some reason you hardly ever see manufacturers make an affordable model with those specs. They are rare as hen's teeth. Everyone knows who Pink is, but not who her bassist is, so the sig model never took off. I wound up getting a loaded MIM P body and putting a J neck on it - originally an MIM Fender one, then that started to twist, so now it's the neck off a James Johnston Squier sig.

Best of luck with that, they seem to be even more rare than the Freeman. I had the good fortune a few years ago to pick up a used Freeman locally at a great price and have passively been keeping an eye out for an Eva Gardner ever since. I need another bass like I need another hole in my head but if one pops up at a "reasonable " price I'm all over it.
