Squier II?

Hi guys, I am looking for some help/advice.

I saw a bass pop up on CL today, talking to the owner he lives quite close to me and I am interested in the bass.

It is a Squier II Precision Bass, Made in Korea
He said the SN is about rubbed off, that its about 15 years old (and sent picture that shows that)

I just dont know anything about these, didnt know how they were, if they were quality or what.

I know its got a light colored fret board, not sure of the wood used.

Also, it has no pickguard on it, and I definitely want one on it, be an issue putting a standard P-bass pickguard?

Just any information and a going rate on them would be helpful to me

A Squier II Precision was my first bass back in 1991. It was definitely pretty good for the $250 or $300 that I paid for it new. This particular model was notable because it was offered without a pickguard. There's a rout in the back of the body with access to the pots.

Mine had a black finish and a maple fingerboard. And the hardware was actually pretty good, too. If you want to put a pickguard on it, you're going to have to drill holes into the body for the screws.

I actually just bought one off another guy on TB here. I've heard they can go for up to 350-400 sometimes too. The neck/fingerboard are maple i believe. depending on how much hes asking and what sort of shape its in, you could get a pretty cool bass for cheap. I would rather spend 200 on a classic oldie bass in good shape, then 200 on a new bass.

Well this guy is *asking* 175 with a hardcase (not sure of brand, jjust know its not rectangular, its more shaped like a bass sort of).

I've not seen it in person yet, he says its in ok condition, but that it is a 15 year old bass, so it has some wear.

I just didnt know if they were quality instruments

Never had a SQ II bass, but own a MIK SQ II Strat that I've had for many years. Most of the late 80's ones were made by either Sammick or another company, (if it has an "S" at the beginning of the serial# it is a Sammick).

Some will dis them over the "plywood" body, but they are actually laminated. As far as playing, my Strat is about as good as any other Fender I have ever picked up. However, for the $$$ unless you can buy it very cheap I'd hold out for a decent used MIM which has better tuners, etc. and won't cost not much more.
