Squier Mod/Refinishing Suggestions ?

Hey there, I am thinking of refinishing my Squier Affinity Jazz bass. Its my first bass, and I dont think I will ever get rid of it. The black finish on it is really scratched up. The bass looks like it has been to the 7th level of hell and back thanks to my dog.

I am looking for colour suggestions, and cant decide what bridge I should put on it, babicz, badass or Gotoh ? What are also some good pick ups ? I play a wide variety of music, rock, metal, classic rock, are my main genres of interest.

Thanks for your time and suggestions :)

hello, i also still have my 1st bass (bb300) that looks like it went to hell and back. i am going to put the babicz bridge on it and make a hole for a nordstrand big single to make it a p/j. just remember that the parts and labor will cost more then the bass did but if you are going to keep it then go for it! dont forget to check out a hippoopie bridge. the look nice! as far as pups go, i have heard nothing but good things about the duncan antiquity 2's.

30plus years in the autobody trade, always owned bursts, now they are all painted,,i've seen on here where guys have cooked the body over an open fire to soften remove the finish:eek:

i'd try citri strip first but aircraft stripper will def. do the job,may stain the wood=?

or you could sand/repair flaws in old finish like a car body with primer/fillers and repaint,,if it's a sacred instrument i'd strip and use either lacquer(if that's your mindset` NITRO':hyper:)

or use all polyeurathane primer, basecoat and clear, lot tougher than laquer ever though of being,SRV's strat was def a lacquer job;),anyway,no glasses on so excuse any spelling mistakes,i'm not going back! PM me if you want for paint questions but i'd look thru the luthier section here;)

have fun and wear gloves and a respirator
