Squier MusicMaster Vista Club

After looking at your photos, I tend to agree with your first choices:

Black on Black is gorgeous. That's a no-brainer right there!
Surf Green/Blue looks great with the pearloid.
White looks nice with the tort, don't like the gold at all.... honestly though I like it best with the stock pickguard. It appears to have an aged yellowish tint to it when set against the bright white background of the body.
BTW, I know you don't like tort on black, but humor me would you and photoshop one up please? You're pretty good at it! It also might help me decide whether I'd like to repaint my Vista black and slap a tort guard on it :)

Nice basses BTW!
Ask and you shall receive!

I, too, can only play one at a time. But I can look at them all at the same time. Once I finish my basement there's going to be a bass display wall.

Great idea! I have one of those, although it is various short scale basses and occasionally a guitar sneaks in there too.
I'd love to have all four colors of the Vista and I think it's great that you do. But I'm outta room already :-)

My wife used to ask me how many basses I need. For what I do, the answer is only one. But, I explained to her that I like them all for different reasons and, more than that, they are becoming my thing that I collect. I told her it could be worse; I could collect classic cars like my neighbor and her father.

Regarding all the colors, I've been scouring google to see if I can find anyone that has all four and I cannot. The most I've seen together in any single photo (besides my current three) is two. I've found a few photos of people who have one each of all the various Vista series instruments, but nobody appears to have all four basses. I think it unlikely that I'll be the first to do so, but I can't find any proof otherwise.

I have a sneaky suspicion you might be the first to actually collect all four colors of the Vista. Which is a great thing! I'd love to be first at something :)
It's always possible someone else out there has all four, but you'd think if there was someone else who was that fanatical about the Vista basses that they had to have all four colors, they'd have found this club by now... if you type Squier Vista Musicmaster Bass into Google, we're the first thing that comes up!

Dude, when you get the last piece of the puzzle you should recreate the Squier ad from back in the day. I'll photoshop it for you if you want.

Just got my Vista today. I'm pretty impressed with the quality, the neck feels great. Still getting used to the short scale (it's my first). Only complaint is that the slap sound is pretty meh, but I've got plenty of other basses to slap on. Also the E string is a bit thuddy/dead compared to the other strings (I imagine it's might be due to the .105 E string? Just a guess.)

What strings are you guys using? I put some D'Addario 105-45 rounds on it and not too keen on the sound or feel (I don't really like rounds all that much really). I'm thinking of getting some Medium Scale Chromes 45-100.

If you start back on page 23 you'll find a good discussion of what people use. I don't remember for sure, but I think it carried on for a few pages.

I have medium scale Chromes on my Vista.... Love them! If you want to post a picture of your Vista I'd be happy to add you to the club :-)

Tada!!!

It is finished! Except for the customizing, that is. I still need to order some pickguards.

It's funny what aging does to the finishes. The pink one looks very peach-colored. The newest addition plays very nicely. Though I don't think I like the rounds it's wearing. They're d'Addarios of some sort, though I'm not sure what. I'll probably slap the spare half-rounds on there and see how they compare to the rest of my strings. There was only one minor hiccup in procuring the pink one. I found it in a pawn shop listing on NYC Craigslist. I called them the next day and it was in the mail a day or so later. One corner of the box was very crushed and I was very worried. I opened it and the only damage was to the top tuner; the flat part was bent about 25 degrees from the key's post. Nothing some manual adjusting couldn't fix (though I do intend to hit up the post office with an insurance claim to possibly replace the tuner(s). Speaking of, here's a shot of the back of the tuners.

On the left is the blue one and the right is the pink one. Previously someone had mentioned different style tuners, but my first three had the left style. The pink one has the bigger base plate version, which almost hangs off the headstock on the E string.

I'm very pleased with my collection. Now I just need to finish that bass wall.
