Mine came from a pawn shop so the gig bag was long gone. I wonder what it looked like.
Just like to point out that my Sonic Blue has turned Sonic Green. You can still see the original blue when you lift off the pickguard. As my tech guy said: "Sunburn. Literally. The laquer turns yellow when it sits in the sun too long." Also that I have somehow missed out on the amazing pickup deal. This one is seriously noisy, so there will be a bit of routing and installation of a Tele humbucker. Looking forward to putting it to work!
Interesting. My Sonic Blue was pretty much Seafoam Green as well. I loved the color!
All you need is a bit of foil shielding tape and it will be whisper quiet. Check out the shielding job I did on mine in an earlier post (a page or so back). Mine was quite noisy but is now now nice n quiet.
Also, if you do end up taking out that original pup I'll take it off your hands.
I remember that. Let's just say this instrument was not seen as an investment by its previous owner. The stock pup had real problems. It doesn't bother me, I'm not a collector, I just really like the neck.
Just reread the thread and am interested in the rewind. I have a dead pickup that needs a rewind I think. How much did they charge? What sort of sound differences did you see as a result of the rewind?

Got a 1977 in blue recently, some player wear and some yellowing but sounds great. The problem: the bass has a stripped truss rod nut and the truss rod rattles :-(
Does anyone know what size the nut is (I'd assume it is Imperial rather than metric)? Would a standard slotted Fender truss rod nut fit?
Has anyone here had to replace a truss rod nut on their Vista?

That sounds like a '77 Fender MusicMaster. Nice bass! Unfortunately I have no idea what size the truss rod nut is, as this is the Squier MusicMaster Club.
However my recommendation would be to get the bass to a reputable repair shop to see if they can save the truss rod threads and put a new nut on it.

I wish. It is a Squier Vista. Can anyone help? I'd like to do the work myself.
OK sorry, I was confused by the 1977 portion of your post, since that predates the Squier Vista basses by 20 years. Sadly, I have no idea either of the exact truss rod nut size or thread thickness on the Vista. I do know I adjust mine with a 5mm. Burl might be able to provide better information when he sees this post.
My concern is that if the threads are damaged on the truss rod nut, then they might be sketchy on the rod itself. I'd be worried about damaging the truss rod threads further by dinking around with it myself and for that reason alone I'd take it to someone who really knows what they are doing. You can pay them a little now, or possibly a lot later.

Depending on its state, I usually use the 5 mm (and sometimes 5 1/2 mm). The crappy thing with this style of neck is to replace the truss rod nut you'll have to widen out the opening in the headstock where the truss rod nut is with a drill as the nut is too big to fit through the hole. Not sure what the cost is to get that done. If the bass is already quite beat up it might be worth trying it on your own. Good luck!

Would I be able to use a slotted fender truss rod nut that Stewmac sells? I called them but they couldn't tell me.
And the answer is... as you probably already heard from Stewmac... maybe. Just out of curiousity, where exactly in Canada are you?
