Squier P-Bass Special vs. SX SPJ-62

This is going to be my first bass... I'm trying to decide between the Squier P-Bass Special and the SX SPJ-62.

Because I live in Canada and L&M is currently having their xmas sale, the squier and sx will end up being approximately the same price (I think $250 vs. $235). The squier is the Black Metallic finish whereas the sx is the sunburst. Although I'm kind of digging the Black Metallic thing... it's different.

Thoughts on which will be a better bass for the price and will last me longer (as in, I won't feel the need to upgrade in a short time period)? Anyone have a pic of either/both?

EDIT: Huh, I just realized that on the L&M flyer, it says "Black Metallic" finish for the Squier special but has a picture of the Pewter Metallic. Not that it matters... I like black.

Never played a SX but Squiers are hit and miss.Some squiers a really good some just.......suck,If you can play them do that.Or just buy a peavey milestone

I think that the Squier P-Bass Special has a jazz neck, while the SX SPJ-62 has a precision neck. It might not matter to you, but I greatly prefer a jazz neck.

Since its your first bass, you should head over to L&M and try out the Squier P-Bass Special, and also a Squier or Fender Precision bass. You'll notice that the precision bass neck is thicker (front to back) and wider at the nut than a jazz neck. Maybe you'll notice that you prefer one neck over the other.

My two cent are i prefer to always buy a bass i can hold and play...i dont really like mailorder basses. I did buy two Sxs once the jazz was OK heavy and i hated the thick gloss on the neck and body but a good bass. The P was bad noisey and bad pups and crap tuners that popped when i turned them. Squiers have come along and i prefer them over a sight unseen SX IMO...fact is i played a squier standard jazz the other day that was as impressive as most MIMs i own....229.00 bucks...gee!
