Did you pick a bass? My comments may not be all that relevant now.
I have several basses and have played for a long while (for what that's worth). If you are just learning I'd go with a very mainstream, very "vanilla" bass like a P bass. Unless you have significant physical limitations I'd go with a full scale bass. This will give you a good usable sound and you will be able to play other basses easily in the future. You won't necessarily ever need another bass so that's a real advantage IMO.
The Rascal is getting a lot of attention right now with its cool factor. However I think it doesn't sound as good as a P bass. The neck pickup soloed sounds excessively mid-honking to me. It's not a sound I can use. The two pickups together do sound good and that's how I use it. The bridge pickup I have used one time soloed in a very specific song setting. So despite the pickup switching that a Pbass lacks, I haven't found the Rascal to be especially flexible for my sound needs. As many people mentioned it is physically full sized and full weight. You aren't getting a smaller or shorter bass in a Rascal, just a shorter playing scale, so keep that in mind too.
