Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this. I did search for similar posts with this idea, but I couldn't find any. Now that you believe I'm a humanitarian and worthy of posting here, might you continue and hear my brain thoughts?

I'm curious if it would be possible to convert a Squier Bass VI into a Squier Rascal (of sorts) using a Squier Mustang bass and a Mustang bridge. I figured the only issue I could come across would be the bridge position and pickups responding differently.

I'm not savy with guitar building. I'm guessing the Jazz bass kinda style and sized body of the Bass VI is bigger than a mustang bass. It's position is very low on its body. I suppose it would have to be measured out. If it works out that 32" lines up within the region of the original tremolo, would this be possible? I suppose I could even get that Guild bridge the rascal uses.

Also, the pickups. Would they be positioned for 6 strings and not do their job as well? Is this not an issue?

This is assuming the neck pockets are the same. I'm sure I'm assuming more things out of my knowledge range. Thanks for reading and any future input.

Instead of burying a Fender Rascal?
(Yes, I know, they're not popping up every day on Reverb or Ebay, etc, but I'm thinking it might be easier to find one than to attempt what you're hoping to do.)

I’d route the Mustang for the Strat style lipstick pickups instead of going through all the work you described for a unknown outcome. The necks aren’t going to be compatible. If you get the neck and bridge installed properly the body is going to be 60% of the length of the instrument which may lead to some playing discomfort, particularly in the upper register which is now 19 frets.

As a former Rascal bass owner I can tell you they were absolutely nothing special but they were very cool looking. The tone left a lot to be desired and I ended up hacking into mine to change the pickups, sold shortly after.

If you are looking for a bass that will physically play like the Rascal you should check out the G&L Fallout.

Also feel free to disregard everything I have said and proceed with your project. Do what makes you happy!

I was thinking of doing this because if Stratosphere on ebay has a Squier VI loaded body for $250 and a Mustang neck for $120 and a guild bridge for $60 it would be hella cheap. Thanks for the Rascal feedback. I've heard mixed reviews. Most people saying the pickups should have been active or different in some way. I'll definitely have to check the Fallout. Love G&L and short scale basses. Thanks for the responses!
