Squier Trilemma

I've been looking for cheap, quality basses under $500($300) I play rock, metal, ballads, and prog, etc. It's pretty much come down to 3 choices now...

Squier VM Jaguar
Squier Deluxe Jazz bass IV active
Squier VM Jazz bass

I'm looking for a bass thats versatile...to play classic rock to metal to jazz to modern, etc.
I want a bass that's tone could go from gritty and fierce to fat to smooth.
I need a solid bass that has substantial tone and smooth comfort.
I just need the best of these 3 basses. Which should i get?Please give your opinion and if you have any other suggestions, that will work as well.

As an owner of a VM Jag and a VM Jazz I'd recommend the Jaguar. It gives you a little more versatility.

Although I own the VM Jazz and recommend it in general, I would think for the type of music you want to play, I also would suggest the VM Jaguar.

Get the fiver. It is the most versatile of the group. It will cover most metal territory well due to the extra string. Everything else on the others are already in that bass, pretty much.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread. Thought you were going for the V Active

Reasons for wanting these 3...
VM jazz- look friggin sweet and 70s-esque....passive rocks
VM jag- Versatile and unique
IV active- love the black, sleek, best reviews on them
any reason to differ?

check out the CV Jazz...picked one up a couple of weeks ago & I'm real happy with it
