Squier VM Telebass compared to Vintera II Telebass?

Hi Tbers,

I searched the forums for this question but couldn't really find anything, but sorry if this has been asked before. I've been saving up for a Vintera II Telecaster bass. I played one in a GC a while back and loved it, loved the sound, how it felt, everything.

Recently, I saw a Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster bass for sale, in good condition, for $300 USD. Just curious for those who may have played both, how close is the Squier VM to the Vintera II? I'm thinking of just getting the Squier because personally, headstock name doesn't matter much to me if the sound it produces is close, and well, my wife won't murder me over $300 (I think)

I know it's silly expecting a $300 bass to be comparable to a $1149 bass, but if the Squier produces the same sound as the Vintera, I can get around the lower quality parts, neck, fretwork, etc.

Going on that very limited info I reckon I'd go with the Squier and if it's pickup was so-so get it rewound. You could swap out everything else and still be $500 cheaper than the Fender.

Thanks for the reply & info. I think I might go through with it and buy it then, like you said, I could swap out the other things if needed and it'll still be cheaper.

update: seller raised price to $399 , no longer buying it. I love the look of the Tele bass but I think I just like the wide range humbucker the most, and for $400, I might as well get the shell pink rascal from Fender's website, and get two WRHB.

Rascal looks nice among the short scale (30”).
Squier vintage modified telecaster bass is a standard 34”.
The squier neck is thinner (more playable) than fender vintera (more close to original 72 bass). The sound is similar (I played both but the in different occasion and with different strings and different amplifier); the details on fender are closer to telecaster original ( neck plate with tilt system, thicker neck…) but the sound seems much similar than price. I got the Squier (long before vintera release) and I don’t fell the need of a vintera. (But I don’t use it often)
