Squiers. I kinda get it now...

With a little time to kill before work today I thought I would re-string my Squier MB-5 and give it a little TLC.

Removed strings, put a little wax on the body and thought I'd pull off the knobs to get underneath. A gentle tug on the volume knob and I feel the pot pull apart.

Bollocks.

I finish the cleaning and then get a good look at the bridge. Nothing wrong with it, but looks less beefy than my Foundation S. I had to tighten the tuners - again before I re-strung it.

Now, the wiring looks good and I like the overall feel and sound of the bass. Really, it just comes down to the hardware not being the high quality kind that they likely use on the P's and J's. But whatever, this just gives me an excuse to dress it up the way I like.

Yes, until you make the calculation of replacing all the hardware and so on and the price is amazingly close to MIM and low-end MIA...

I bought it on the cheap. I'd have to replace everything with 14k gold plated parts to get close to a price of a new one, or even a used one that is in as good a shape as this one. The plastic is still on the truss rod and back cover. If the kid hadn't tried to rub the 1/2" of dust off from under the strings there wouldn't be a scratch on it.
