Anyone have any experience with squire Classic Vibe's. I ran into a p-bass today that really seemed to sound and feel quite nice and I've been looking for a cheap p-bass.

any opinions? are there better squires to be had?

If you do a search of the forums for Squier or classic vibe you will find a plethora of threads praising them and they rightfully deserve it.

I have a classic vibe 50s p bass and absolutely love it. I put some labella deep talkin flats on it, gave it a quick set up and love the way it plays and sounds. It has become my go to bass.

Fit and finish is great. Tight neck joint, great finish. The neck is a bit thicker then I was used to, but it didn't take long to adjust.

All in all, great bass for the price.

Phil

Actually played a 60's classic vibe today. Great bass. I'm going to buy one and put flats on it. Does anyone know why this bass has a bridge cover with no foam in it? Will a fender mute with foam fit without drilling new holes?

+1

The Squier CV p bass is well debated. You must have been to Mars in the last year not to notice it! ;-)
Anyway, these bass's are among the best p bass's you can get per $, and that is why I've bought my CV 60 p bass. Great bass, with only one "minus", it is not written Fender with big letters on the head stock.

I recommend the red one over the blue one. Feels and sounds better, IMO.

(the paint isn't the only difference, I'm not saying that one color is better or something, but in this particular case it means something because each model is only made in one color)

???
The CV 60 comes in Fiesta red or Sonic blue, never heard anything about these 2 to sound different. The CV 50 comes in placid blue, but this bass is not the same p bass as the CV 60. The CV 50 have a single coil pup and looks like the Sting sig. p bass. The 60 have the split-single coil and have the "standard" look.

Wait a couple of months for this version:

The CV P Bass is a well made instrument. It is easy to play, feels good, and any bass players in the audience will come up to you and see if it is an old Fender or what is it, as it sounds sooooo good. If you put flats on it; LOOK OUT; frickin' great Bass!

I have the sonic blue version with a set of GHS Precision flats (M3050) and the bass sounds amazing.

As to the bridge cover (included with the sonic blue only), the cover is not the "typical" Fender cover due to the size of the bridge. I have placed a piece of foam under the cover on top of the strings and I really like the vintage tone.

I have also added a standard Fender P pup cover to complete the look that I was after.

Odd, I thought they were different. My bad.

Does it have a compound radius? Or was that guy at GC full of it?

There is definitely a difference between the two VM Ps though (different body and fingerboard woods).

The guy at GC was full of it.

Yes the two VM P's are slightly different
The white one has an agathis body with a rosewood board, the Amber one (what I have) has a maple body and a maple board. Both have the exact same electronics/pickup and hardware, though.
