Squire VM Jazz vs. G&L Tribute JB-2

I've been researching getting a bass for quite some time now and now I'm ready to buy. Of course I'm a beginner and want a bass that is not terribly expensive but is good enough for a starter bass and beyond. I'm considering a Squire VM Jazz or G&L Tribute JB-2 any opinions?

The G&L's have superior build quality... If I were you I would check out the G&L L-2000 Tribute, it's a bit more versatile than the JB-2

Awhile ago I considered the Trib. l2000 but I decided that I wanted the simplicity of a Jazz bass (3 knobs and no switches). The Trib. l2000 is also a little farther out my price range compared to then JB-2 and the Squire VM.

I haven't played the JB-2 but I own an L-2000 Tribute which plays much better than the Squier VM Jazzes I've tried. So I think the G&L would be a better choice.

Personally I would go for the JB-2. G&L makes great basses.

The Tribute basses are great. I'd be leaning towards one of those.

I own a Squier Modified bass (a TB) and owned a G&L Tribute (SB-2). While I haven't played either model you're asking about, I'm confident the G&L would SMOKE the Squier.

I'd say in a heartbeat why even ask, JB-2 all the way.

It all depends on how much you want to spend, and how the bass feels to you. You may prefer the feel of the Squier, or you may prefer the feel of the Tribute. Personally I would say that the Tribute is a better quality instrument overall though.
