SR or IBANEZ

SR is a line of Ibanez basses. I don't think Ibanez has a little bastard company. :D

I pulled the below information from an Ibanez forum...

...it came from the interwebz, so it must be true....

RELATED TRADEMARKS - IBANEZ (Hoshino Co.Japan)
Isonez, Kasuga, Luxor, Halifax, Cimar, Maya, Morris, Global, Sekova, Polaris for European Market

Antoria (CSI) England Distributor

Greco for Japanese Market
MANN for Canadian Market
Jason for the Australian Market
Penco, Elger, Univox for the US Market

Very funny post. Sounds like the friend knows nothing about Ibanez basses at all. I own a 5 string Ibanez SR505 and it is the first Ibanez bass that I have owned. In fact I had never played a 5 string bass at all until I played an Ibanez SR305 about seven years ago that belonged to a church. I liked it so well that I went a couple of models up and bought a Ibanez SR505 a year later and have owned it for six years.

Does your friend know how to read? If so, tell him to do some research on the Internet before he puts his foot in his mouth again.

So I was talking a friend of mine and he saw that I have a couple SR model basses. He then proceeded to tell me that "SR makes good stuff" and then he asked me.. "do you like SR or Ibanez?" I was confused at first... so naturally I said Ibanez... I was under the assumption that SR was just a line of Ibanez guitars... The way eh was making it sound is as if SR was the little basterd cheap version of Ibanez kinda like Squire is to Fender... is this true?

It seems like your friend doesn't know that sr is an Ibanez model. it's not a 2nd company from the makers of Ibanez. the sr is short for soundgear and it's one of Ibanez's most popular models.

OMG!!!!!!!! okay so NO OFFENSE to the OP but now that i'm done slapping my hand against my forehead (5 min straight) I can answer. But AT LEAST YOU HAVE THE NUTS TO ASK AND LEARN:
1. The basses are Ibanez
2. The headstock reads SDGR (short for soundgear)
3. the "SR" is even shorter for SDGR and only used in the model number (i.e. SR900)

OP again The basses are Ibanez no such thing as an "SR brand" and as a "Guitar Center Employee" PLEASE educate yourself as much as possible as to not perpetuate the poor view people have of those that work there.

Like I said.. I already knew this to be true until he confused the hell out of me. I've never in my life told anyone that SR was its own brand.

seriously,

you either need to take "guitar center employee" off your signature, or spend 30 seconds on google before you post....

you are really really not doing GC any favors here

Well actually I'm not in sales... I'm an operations employee which means I'm not really required to know tons about guitars and brands, not too much anyways, but thank you for being a complete jackass :D

My mistake for asking questions on a guitar forum. Thanks to everyone who took time to answer my question without flaming, much appreciated. The reason I asked this question in the first place was because I was actually offended of the assumption that he made about Ibanez... and it bothered me a lot that someone could be so ignorant and I was just trying to get an expert opinion. I guess I could have asked one of my co-workers, however I didn't want to look like a moron.. so I came here.. my mistake.

Guitar Center isn't that bad LOL, and they keep all the strings there so they are always great in a pinch. And informed or not at the one nearest to me they are at least friendly. And.... we're all ignorant before we know better. Let's let the OP's friend live through the weekend at least :)

Is there any reason we all decided to flame the OP for a simple question? When I first started I assumed the same thing, but why so much sarcasm?

+1
Not all GC employees are going to be knowledgeable on everything that GC carries! Maybe he is a new employee, new to bass, works in another department and isn't familiar with the bass gear section yet! Some of these comments are a bit harsh! Heaven forbid someone ask a simple, innocent question on TB!

I have a Ibanez SR1405e. Awesome guitar, love it. If it`s a cheap bastard offspring of Ibanez don`t tell that to my wallet. It sounds great and I paid over $1000 for it new ! Worth every penny to me..

Worth every penny.... One of my fav basses when I'm trying out inventory, fast smooth neck, well balanced, some of the best pups I've ever heard.... these higher end "SR" basses are never cheap on EBAY either.

My kid just nabbed a used SR500 with a similar neck, same balanced shape, great sound and has an SRX ex2 relegated to backup he sometimes lets me borrow.

Sometimes at GC you can nab a good deal because they don't appreciate what's there.
