St. Blues curiosity

It's been a while since I've posted, so cut me some slack. I've recently been turned on to St. Blues. I've never heard of them before, and they only offer one bass model. The King Bass, a P/J copy. I can't seem to get any reviews or prices on them. Anyone got anything?

St. Blues started back in the 1980s building guitars in Memphis, TN and selling them through a store called (I think) Strings and Things. They've been in and out of activity a few times, their current website makes it look like they are only doing custom guitars at this point.

I love my St.Blues King Blues Bass. I'm a P/J guy, have several; Fender, Yamaha, Schecter, etc. but the St.Blues is my main go-to bass(excluding my "Beatles" gig). Very well-built and solid. Great neck, very punchy tone, bridge is string-thru or top-load, tuners are nice. Ash body, one-piece maple neck. I cannot say enuff about mine.

Exactly, I have one of the original P/Js in black with cream binding...basically it's very well made but very heavy.

So they're basically a no-frills Fender copy? How would you say they compare to an American P?

Exactly, for the time they were seen as an improvement over what Fender was making.

Well, sure, the binding is certainly na added "frill." But I meant like active pickups/exotic woods/high-end mumbo-jumbo. Which is what Fender is for the most part, anyway, so I guess saying that was sort of redundant.

Local shop has one. Been there for the three years I've been stopping in. Nice bass, sounds great. Gold in color, $800ish and heavy. About like the Peavey T-40 in weight class.
