Stage presence: finally someone gets it

It looks as if he was one of this bands gimmicks....Moving the mic stand out the way so he could do his thing, the singer standing back and introducing him afterwards, like a dancing dog in a circus act.

Echoes of Frank Zappa singing I'm a Dancing ....

I wonder who the bandleader was... :D

Yup. That's what I was referring to. Unfortunately it's not rare for guitar players and bass players to use the minor pentatonic elements of the blues scale in places where it doesn't fit.

Back to Jackie Gleason dancing bass player contest.
IMO the VI isn't used enough
a good player knows the difference between the VI and bVII and when to use them.

This guy broke the cardinal rule of playing in a band...NEVER upstage your singer! That's a jerkoff move.

Well, obviously the Singer allowed it for only that section of one song. Even the guitarist pointed it out. Good gimmicks are good entertainment.

I wish I could do more in my band, but according to the Cardinal Rule: I can't upstage the singer that once put his hands in his pockets while singing (I made fun of him) and the guitarist that constantly stares at his fretboard. So that leaves me.... bobbing my head. We are not entertaining to watch. Hopefully entertaining to listen to. We might as well sit down on chairs and have music stands.

(lately [edit] recently I've been reconsidering my musical options)

Hmmm...Rich Kelly is the singer, so I guess upstaging him briefly was OK by him. I'll tell you, though...as loungey as they come off in this video, they can really sing. And I hear that he still gigs as a single in west Florida and he's in his 80's (this is what I found out with a Google search).

I usually figure I'm rocking the stage presence as long as the audience can see a bit of my fully buttoned short-sleeve shirt, sandals-n-socks, and my cargo shorts behind the giant on-stage music stand. But this guy's got game on a whole 'nother level:

Gotta go woodshed my moves!

Gosh - that could have been me 30 years ago. I'm really glad that our band sits down when we play now!
