Stage size

I'm not a huge Dream Theater fan, but I watched their Live at Bodukan DVD the other day and am now watching their old Five Years in a Livetime.

The first thing I noticed was how much smaller the stage was in the older performance and it got me to thinking about playing on huge stages. I'm played on high school stages that are fifty feet across and just plain don't like it. As the stage size increases, bands feel like they need to spread out to the outer extremeties of it.

On the other hand, I have played on "postage-stamp" stages and hate those.

Has anyone else any preference on stage size? I guess my favorite size is when the outermost members of the band (in my case, guitar and bass) are no more than fifteen feet apart, with the drummer not at all far behind.
