In 1978 I saw Willie Nelson and Family, Asleep at the Wheel and Ray Wylie Hubbard at the Green Bay Arena, a big venue known for being an out of control echo box. (Sports venue.)
The touring PA they had was huge, and quite typical for the era, but they used Karlson "clamshells" for all the low end cabinets. (They looked like those two in Stanley's rig, only not laid on their side.)
The sound was impeccable. The reverberance and echo in the room was under control. I even moved all around the arena top to bottom, side to side, and the sound was fantastic everywhere.
I don't know how much the design of the Karlson cabinets played into the excellent sound, but they got my attention.
