He didn't direct them! (or rather he didn't direct Empire or Jedi). After the first star wars movie Lucas quit directing, and went into the business side. He didn't direct again for 20 years. He's just not good at it.

I saw him speaking at a conference a couple of years ago (I knew he was short, but the guy could be an extra for Snow White - like <5". The Simpsons episode ISN'T exagerating). Funiest thing was when he started going on about how the technology was just a tool for storytelling - this was to a room of FX guys, and WE all hated him for screwing up the story with FX.

He said there would be TV spinnoffs, based in the SW world, but that SW itself was done. It's about Vader - you've seen him be born, rise, fall, restoration, death. It's done.

Wasn't it originally supposed to be about Luke? 'The Skywalker Saga' or some such?

I think Lucas definitely did I, II and II from a marketing perspective, putting in the "right" kind of characters to sell to little kids, and making Anakin especially young to appeal to young children who would buy the toys. I heard he originally was going to be 12 but Lucas decided to make him younger to make it more "traumatic" for him to leave home. I think he saw dollar signs with a young kid about the age of his toy audience.

Lucas is great with special effects and making up characters and planets, but I don't find him great at weaving a tale. I'm much more impressed by the twists and turns of the movie "Serenity" than Star Wars. But, I love the characters in Star Wars, what girl didn't put her hair up in two buns and wear an old bedsheet in 1980?

I think Lucas should stop while he's ahead. He's no Spielberg. Now Spielberg is a man who can weave a tale and create the perfect scenes.

No more films, but there's a live action TV series in the works that covers the time between Episodes 3 and 4.

There's not much info on it out there yet, but it may be something to do with bounty hunters hunting down the last Jedi.

I want Lucas to make them, but I want someone else to write the screen dialogue and DEFINITELY someone else to direct them. Empire and Jedi were excellent, cuz Lucas didn't direct them. Episodes I through III had some really amateur dialogue and stiff acting, cuz Lucas is a control freak. If he loosened his grip and let a great director do it, we'd get the modern movies we all want to see.

And the (lack of) acting! Really, I've seen Samuel Jackson and Natalie Portman act quite well in other movies. Does LucasFilm pump Valium into their water or something?

Oh come on! With all the horrible stereotypes and thinly disguised racist slurs in the first three episodes Jar Jar is the one that offended you?

How is that even possible? I'm not a member of any of the groups he ridiculed with his charicatures disguised as characterization and I was offended. Jar Jar didn't offend me. He just annoyed me.

Forget the rumour. I honestly thought there were going to be nine of them when I was younger and episode one was about to hit. Then someone told me "Oh yeah. Only six. That's it." I was like "What? Why? You gotta finish the story!!!" Of course, to be honest, I don't really remember seeing the sixth film, but who cares? More films would be awesome. Just like having more Knights of the Old Republic games.

Hmmmm? It's been a while since I've seen Star Wars III, and I mostly glazed over Eps I and II... but I don't remember any racial stereotypes. Were there rapping Klingons or something?

I don't know, I didn't mind episodes 1 & 2 (Attack of the Clones actually hade some really neat stuff happening in it), but Episode 3 was kind of a letdown, IMO. Lots of neato special effects, but the acting was bad for the most part, and a lot of the plot seemed rather forced.

I think they should just leave it at the six movies, and just do the TV spinoffs and stuff as talked about. The basic story of the six movies is done with.
