Started to explore the band YES....

Wow... just now exploring Yes! That's great... in a way I envy you. It's lke talking to someone who is sitting down to their first really great steak. Your ears are gonna love you for it!

Drama is awesome (sans Jon Anderson and Wakeman), also Fragile are good ones to get under your belt before jumping into Close to the Edge or Relayer.

That's what I've heard!!

It will be a long journey, but my journey into the Rush world was also long and it was exciting hearing new songs other than Spirit of Radio or YYZ or Limelight. I'm excited!

And the best part of it is there are dozens (at least) groups that we can do this with.

Dig in. Tell the boss you'll be taking a couple of weeks off. When I was a kid we did this with "record players" and vinyl. And staying up all night.

Tales From Topographic Oceans is my favourite Yes album. There, I said it.

It's a long haul, and an extremely tough first listen, but after listening to it a few times it's amazing. I have it on vinyl, CD and digital. Next favourite is probably Close To The Edge, then Relayer (quirky jazz-sounding album), then Fragile/The Yes Album. They peaked between 1971 and 1974, IMO. Going For The One was okay, but disappointing after Relayer. I never ventured into the '80s stuff, I couldn't bring myself to do it.

After the many years of listening to The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge, Yessongs, Relayer...somewhat recently, I finally broke down & bought Yes (the debut) & Time And A Word.

This is early Yes w/ Peter Banks...still ass-kicking.

The whole DVD?

This thread would be a good fit in Recordings or even Misc.

Good point Mike, took me a while to catch it as there were 2 threads. Now merged, one thread in Misc.

Nice topic. And some very good suggestions made, so I can't add much. There is a TON of excellent music there.

If that is not enough for you, you can then go on to the whole "King Crimson" catalogue. I would do that one in order, I think.

Whenever I explore a new band, I listen to their singles and hits first (doesn't everyone? :D). If I like them enough, I'll branch out to their other songs.

I'm very interested and excited in seeing what Yes will sound like and study why they're just as influential, if not more or less, than Rush.

What are some singles or hits you can suggest for me?? Thanks!
That's simply not the right way to listen to Yes. If you don't have the patience to make it through a whole album at once, then they're not the right band for you.

On a side note, the current singer of Yes was the bass player in a Seattle band I closely followed back in the 90's, Sky Cries Mary. I don't know him anymore, but back in the 90's we were buddies.

Drama is one of my favorites as well. Trevor Horn did a phenomenal job on that record.
